If I had something that was treatable by penicillin then I would use it. Even according to the manufacturer, Merck, Ivermectin is useless for preventing or treating COVID-19. Why would any rational person use a medicine to treat a condition where the medicine provides no benefit.

Ivermectin is not “out of patent”. The drug has over a dozen U.S. patents and over 100 international patents still in effect. Merck still makes licensing fees from the dozen or so licensed manufacturers worldwide. I have outlined all of this previously in detail.

Ivermectin is available in generic form in the US. This means the patent has expired. You can have a valid patent for only so long in the US. Up to 21 years IIRC after two previous renewals at 7 years a pop.
