Legality of Healthcare

Discussion in 'Economics' started by unretired, Mar 1, 2010.

  1. BULLSHIT! Healthcare is NOT a "RIGHT"... never has been, never will be... only thought so by those who want to "get it for free... at somebody else's expense".

"Provide for yourself or perish... don't be a loadstone upon the neck of the productive... you deserve only what your earn for yourself, nothing more".. should be the motto of America.

Nobody has a RIGHT to ANYTHING which somebody else has to provide. If you can't provide for yourself, you might as well do society a favor an put a bullet through your brain... at least, go off somewhere private, curl up and die. NOBODY OWES YOU A LIVING... JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE BORN, YOU ARE NOT "ENTITLED" TO JACK.. GET USED TO IT!!

    BSAM

May I tell you something little brother? Mine is free. But, guess what? Believe it or not, there's a few of us out here who are concerned about someone other than ourselves. No, I don't need a box of animal crackers. Mine is free regardless of what Obama or folks like you think or do.

    HEALTHCARE IS A RIGHT.

  4. I've never said that universal health care should be paid for out of an 'earmarked' fund: fund it out of general revenue receipts.

Although I don't want health care reform to make private insurance companies illegal: I couldn't care less whether the 'private sector' survives or not. Nobody should be making a profit off health care except doctors, nurses, technicians: the people earning wages from providing services.

Our 'principles' have/had VERY little to do with our 'economic superpower' position. We are a geographical accident. Discovered after the rest of the world had depleted their resources and established 'special interest groups' that inhibits innovation. I'm not dissing free enterprise but I am a socialist who believes that there are some things best done by the gov't because the gov't represents ALL of us. BTW, I'll take a dose of European 'freedoms' over our system any day.

  5. Healthcare is a right in America. If you are poor, you get Medicaid; if you are 65 and over, you get Medicare. If you have an emergency, hospitals are legally required to treat you, even if you don't have insurance. There are a few states that also offer guaranteed coverage for individuals looking to purchase individual insurance, even if you have pre-existing conditions.

  9. Apparently, Scat has placed more people on ignore than any other ET member. Does that make him the Resident Ignoramus?

  10. Unless it is amended to the Constitution, then it IS NOT a right. I don't know what gives u this idea. Health insurance was created by private companies, it is a product, not a right.

Where does this line of thinking end? Perhaps all Americans are entitled to a specific salary each year as well, or how about a house, or a car? We aren't entitled to shit, we are born free and we have to pull our own weight in order for the economy to function. Relying on the govt will cause stagnation eventually, who is going to work if they are better taken care of sitting on their ass?

I am not heartless either, I have no problem with social programs, as long as they DO NOT become entitlements. Calling healthcare a "right" is a flat out lie.
