Thing is TMZ reported the wife thing wrong and retracted.... Who reported the "she hit me first" bit? Didn't know she had called the cops in anticipation.... Could read both ways. The Swetnick referral is a nonstarter, just political posturing by Grassly. The speaking cancellations are a no brainer, as should've been for Kavanaugh's hearing pending investigation.
He has been charged by LAPD with suspicion of felony domestic violence. He was required to post a $50K bond. The Apartment Complex Security Officers provided eyewitness accounts to LAPD, as did the battered woman. According to TMZ there may also be at least one other material witness. Her face and eyes were swollen and bruised. She was living with Avenetti and was his girlfriend. They had separated and she wanted to return to the apartment to get her personal belongings. Before the incident she had called LAPD and the Apartment Security Desk prior to her going to the apartment and said that she feared that Mr. Avenetti might become violent. Felony DV in California is a very serious charge.
Apartment Security Officers reported to LAPD the statements that Avenetti made to them, as well as the statements that the battered woman made to them. Before the incident she had called LAPD and the Apartment Security Desk prior to her going to the apartment and said that she feared that Mr. Avenetti might become violent. According to TMZ there may also be at least one other material witness besides the battered victim and Apartment Security Officers.
I'm sure the police report will become available soon to confirm said reports. I also think there needs to be clarification about what being booked and what being charged means.
Thank you. Those facts do not look good from him. Imagine if an attorney goes digging for women who will say he hit her 20 30 years ago? But, I will withhold judgment pending his conviction.
I was curious too, did some research. The charge is suspicion of felony domestic violence. The arrest and the booking are police actions. Those were done. Then the County Prosecutor takes the police report and all of the associated statements and relevant materials, weighs the veracity and merit, and determines if and what charges should be filed (if any). The Prosecutor determined that a felony charge was warranted. Then a hearing takes place before a judge where the prosecutor presents all the relevant material facts in the case known to date and the judge set Mr. Avenatti's bail at $50,000 - same as negligent manslaughter and incest. There is a misdemeanor DV but this woman apparently took a fairly severe beating. This is a serious charge that carries jail time if convicted. So, Mr. Avenatti has been booked and he has been charged. As the case is developed by the Prosecutor those charges might be dropped, downgraded, or additional charges might be filed before Mr. Avenatti's first Court arraignment. So in other words, he's already been arrested, booked, and charged. The police, the prosecutor, and a bail judge all three concluded that based on what they knew to date that the charge met the threshold for probable cause and had merit. I also found out that once the prosecutor's office has issued a domestic violence charge, the victim has no authority to drop the charges. So, is he guilty ? We don't know. Does the Prosecutor think he has a case ? Yes. Did the judge at the bail hearing use his discretion to lower Mr. Avenatti's pre-trial disposition ? No, he set bail according to the schedule.
Why do the Republicans always virtue signal in these situations? You are earning zero points with democrats. Even though Shepard Smith works for Fox he goes out of his way to defend CNN at every turn. Even Sean Hannity is defending Michael Avenatti. You won't earn points with the gay democrats/don lemon crowd. They are already pissed off at Republican Christians for judging them. All the virtue signaling in the world won't change that. Sure, you are trying to show that you are "fair and balanced", do you think someone suffering from TDS gives a sh*t about you being "fair and balanced"???? Side note, even though I don't agree with Beto O'Rourke he had the instinct to distance himself from Avenatti weeks ago unprovoked. He almost turned Texas blue. I know Hillary wants it all in 2020 but if Beto is willing to accept the role of VP then he might be a true threat. Avenatti is political kryptonite now and Beto knew that weeks ago, only someone with terminal TDS would continue to champion him.
I can think of no two individuals more devoid of virtue than Donald Trump and Michael Avenatti. I view this thread as a mild reaction to an earlier much more hyper-partisan diatribe of a thread extolling the many virtues of Michael Avenatti as a "Slayer".
This is an opinion. I don't know Hannity and I don't think I have heard him say much on this. When it comes to the legal process if Kavanaugh is entitled to Due Process I strongly agree that Avanatti is entitled to it also. That is what makes America great we don't want people being targeted. Justice should be blind. So is possible its not virtue signaling as much as it is support for the rule of law and the constitution.
