LED Backlighting?

  1. I'm thinking about building a station to trade. I've been scouring the forums for awhile and I know led backlit monitors are preferred. Anyone cares to explain why other than the fact that those monitors are simply clearer?

I've never heard anything about "clearer" and am unsure how a backlight could impact clarity.

In general, LED backlights have lower voltage (eliminating a common failure mode w/ CFLs), use less power, should last longer (both from low voltage & intrinsic design) & enable a thinner form factor with housing.

However, supposedly their color rendering is slightly below CFLs & their approach to dimming can cause eye strain in some people. Read the info in the reviews on this page.

The overall viewing quality of a monitor is more impacted by panel type (IPS vs TN) than backlight type.

  3. LED provides more even backlighting and cooler environment when running a few.
