I subscribed to his old website Hard Right Edge about 20 years ago. I also read his Master of the Trade book. My personal opinion - he reeks of snake oil.
I enjoyed reading his writing, though some were very difficult reads. Strip away his self promotions, self aggrandizing, his concepts are profound and affected my trading in a very positive way.
Interesting. I'm actually watching a free webinar of his right now and that's the feeling I'm getting. Could be quite good, but still feels like snake oil. @ironchef What of his stuff did you read?
1. The Black Swan 2. Fool By Randomness 3. Silent Risk 4. Antifagile 5. Option traders use (very) sophisticated heuristics, never the Black–Scholes–Merton formula 6. Doing Statistics Under Fat Tails It is all about Randomness.
@ironchef basically named all the good books (Most are from Taleb) Dynamic Hedging by Taleb is a bit advanced, but it doesnt hurt to advance your knowledge, just make sure you know the ledge. Download thinkorswim and tastyworks and glue your eyes to the option chains and play around with everything. Analyze everything. All the info you'll ever need to know is within the option chains.. I also just downloaded this app called "WeBull", and I'm impressed. Its the best finance app I've seen. Its clean looking and a swift userface. The chart dynamics is the best I've seen on an app, very user friendly. They also display option chains but i prefer looking at tastyworks interface, its the best when it comes to option chains.
"I'm particularly attracted to the book by Hull since he's a 'Market Wizard' and have actually made a substantial amount of money with his own trading operations and funds." Just be aware two different Hulls here. The Wizard was Blair Hull - not the author. The author is John Hull.
My issue with books about options is that they are very theoretical. They explain in great detail how an option works etc.....but the step to determine what to buy or sell, which strategy/why , pitfalls of chosen strategy etc. That kind of information I have not found in any trading book. That information is easier to find for trading stock. I'm open for suggestions.
