My first 6 months of trading where pretty profitable. I grew my account almost 20 fold without over leverage (quite the reverse). Luck? maybe, I was taking probably 20+ trades a day so a lot of luck. Of course it was not long before I hit drawdowns and the emotional issues started. If I had had better education (to help deal with them) I might of rode the hump. Of course I went method hopping and all the other cr*p. Almost 15 years later I still have not ever achieved that emotionally un encumbered state. For that matter I am not sure I have even repaired all the damage. My hunch is success followed by failure is a lot more damaging than just starting out borderline or small losses. Don't they say you are not a truly great trader until you are on your 3rd comeback?
my father worked construction and i did to - i am a carpenter by trade local 198 dallas, about 25 years ago. i think of trading like driving a nail, if i threw up my hands and quit everytime i missed a nail or busted my finger i would not have made a living. so with that in mind it doesn't matter how many times i have been busted trading, im going to do it anyway. i like you first started out winning and thought man this is so easy, little did i know what was ahead for me. finally at some point i went to work for a real trader who knew what he was doing and that was the turning point for me. listen what trade would you not work at as an apprentice really? mb btw i think i have been bust about 10 times at least and it may not be over i keep thinking all the time. but i have had some big booms too - to finance some of those bust.
True in essence, but do you expect someone to pay you $299 a month for 36 months while you explain this to them? Yes, it may take a while, but it's also pretty messed up to take advantage of that statement by twisting into some marketing ploy to hook newbies for long periods of expensive chat room memberships. While you make valid points as far as brain surgery or flying commercial airliners requiring much time and effort....attempting to compare trading chat rooms to accredited flight and medical schools and expecting people to follow you for that long is ignorant. People have at least the accreditation factor going for them as far as legitimate universities go...it's a lot more to ask of someone to get them to pay you $300 a month for promises, with no proof of your skills or accreditation.
Aha, nice to see we have some real brains in the psychology section. I can relate to what you speak of, as I have personally sat for hours just watching the ticker tape scroll across the bottom of the TV screen, and yes Mark, you are 100% correct, this can be a very good leading indicator as to what direction the herd are being led. And what is more, as you more than likely know, is that many software programmes allow you to create your own customized ticker tape, that will scroll across the bottom of your PC screen. From my analysis of your recent posts, I can only see one major flaw with your current approach to trading, and that is, you have failed to grasp the fundamentals of risk control, and without that, you will continue to give back a good deal of that easy money that you are picking up. I can help you with this if you like, and it is like your ticker tape trading, it is very easy once you are shown by someone that knows what they are talking about ! And I love working with my hands as well, not just using my brain !
