I worked with one guy at Worldco that learned in 6 months and never had a loosing month since. It took me 4 years. Schonfelds top trader took 5 years of loosing money and begging to quit before he turned. On average the learning curve is 2 to 5 years to be net profitable! About 6 months to start grossing.
Most jobs are harder than they look, even selling hot dogs at the ball park. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/05/b...op/Reference/Times Topics/Subjects/B/Baseball Highlights:
People lets quit comparing this occupation to other ones like the medical field. Trading is NOT Brain Surgery !! PERIOD !!! As hard as hell as this Trading Occupation is to become consistently profitable , it cannot and should not be compared to Brain Surgery. How many certified Brain Surgeons start a successful practice after after just 2 to 5 years of learning ?? Try 4 years of undergrad pre med., then 4 years of Med school, then 4 years of General Residency and then 2 more years of specialty surgery Residency. Thats 14 years my friends without even having your first patient to operate on by yourself. Dont compare apple to oranges. Nuff said !!
with a brain surgeon you have people around you who have done it, who can mentor you to being a brain surgeon. the whole goddamn med school is there to provide support to you; tutors if you dont know what to do, lecturers, books, demonstrations etc. There is also not alot of emotions involved, i.e you study and and you operate, very much a high IQ exercise. Trading has no support networks, ET is the only place on earth i can ask questions about trading to and get a decent idea of what is right/wrong I have to develop my own system/method as well as developing to handle the emotional aspects of trading, which i do poorly. Trading is both a High IQ and EQ ("emotional intelligence") exercise, which is why so many people fail at it. High IQ to find your "edge" high EQ to suffer thru drawdowns/losses etc. most people are born with either high IQ or high EQ and not both, which makes trading extremely difficult until you build up enough of both parts of yourself to become successful
Spectra where did you read that it took Mark Fisher 3 years to become a profitable trader. Can you point me to the link
Your welcome. I'd rather people come in to our service with the truth up front. Will make them work harder (I hope)
I'm totally convinced that Michael Jordan, or Linda Raschke, take your pic of any super achiever in life, is mindful, once in a while, by the fact that out there somewhere, someone is kicking their butts on a daily basis. But we'll ever know of this person.
