  2. Sheesh, get over it. Seven years and you people are still convinced the Court "stole" it from you, even though all the major media concluded that Bush would have won any recount, unless you let Al Gore personally count the votes.

    Anyway, the Congress votes spending bills.

  4. Are you honestly contending that the New York Times engaged ina whitewash of Bush stealing the election? Don't you think they would have gone nuts if they could have made any case at all that Gore won?

  5. i see what you're saying but, imo not necessarily. once one or two major networks/names began to coalesce, who would dare fight that tide, especially if the man got into the office, your business and cred would be screwed for 8 years. very risky call to make

    i'm not an expert on the 2000 election, but to me that was a proper coup de etat with an appointee or family member at every critical stage of the process... the governorship in disputed territory, the supreme court, the diebold ppl pledging to deliver him the vote in 04... just a mockery of democracy imo

    anyway... it's mostly forgotten these days, but his elected status was in question from the start and it's still very frustrating given the outcome of his 'presidency'

    sorry to go off topic

  6. Thankyou avid consumer, for such a distinct summary of Ceasar's reign.

    Elected, under a cloud of uncertainty.....with vast family ties........constantly deffered to the roman senate, allegedly even attempting to renounce, or otherwise ensure power remained within a democratic process, what a great guy.

    This was the guy who invaded gaul, as a mere senator, and conquered germanica, only to leave vast funding gaps for future generations, while he was likely actually a pretty good ruler of rome, his policies totally sucked and certainly helped in the gradual, if inevitable disintegration of the state.

    Lead is a poisonous metal that can damage nervous connections (especially in young children) and cause blood and brain disorders. Long term exposure to lead or its salts (especially soluble salts or the strong oxidant PbO2) can cause nephropathy, and colic-like abdominal pains. The historical use of lead acetate (also known as sugar of lead) by the Roman Empire as a sweetener for wine is considered by some to be the cause of the dementia which affected many of the Roman Emperors.

    At one point in time, some lead compounds, because of their sweetness, were used by candy makers. Although this has been banned in industrialized nations, there was a 2004 scandal involving lead-laced Mexican candy being eaten by children in California. Even in these cases however, it should be noted that the lead is not an additive but merely a contaminant that enters incidentally via for instance, metal particles accumulated during grinding processes.

  8. Nice post bluud, but i think it ignores a few things;

    Firstly, that lead was also used extensively in plumbing during the roman period....it isn't known to what extent this contaminated the water supply, but it could only have been extensive.

    Secondly, the use of heavy metals as "cures " for things, was in fact largely limited to the ruling classes, very few could afford a "mercury tincture", and fortunately, adding gold flakes to their drinks may have been the least of their problems.

    That ancient history aside, the particular history of toothpaste should be amusing to many-various armies were so desperate to cut dental costs, because their soldiers could be killed far cheaper without this specialist care, they supplied toothpaste to their troops..............
    Any guesses there,,

    In toothpaste tubes chock full off lead. Odd that, a soldier dyeing of lead poisoning, but there it is.

  9. Huh? Who took who to court. Last I heard the Florida Secretary of State certified Bush and then Gore sued. What am I missing?

  10. Well, one thing he's missing is how every democrat in the country adhered to the talking point of how "every vote must be counted" while the dnc lawyers were working furiously behind the scenes to prevent military absentee votes from being counted. That's just for starters. But, to the obsessed, that doesn't matter.
