  1. Just saw a sidebar blurb on Bloomberg that said:

"World Health Organization says it is working intensively to get pre-qualification for Russian and Chinese vaccines."

Yeh. Regular viewers will know that I don't doubt that for a minute. No sireeeeeee. I am pretty sure that their check is in the mail too. Or would that be in crypto these days?

Too bad they did not work as "intensively" on some other things.

COVID-19 Is 'Pretty Much Eradicated' in Israel
Israel's success is sadly not reflected in its neighboring territories.
    https://interestingengineering.com/covid-19-eradicated-in-israel

COVID-19 vaccines worked really well for Israel, according to a new paper published in the journal Nature. The country's vaccination program is the most expansive on the planet, and has "pretty much eradicated COVID-19," in the middle-eastern country. "[A]t least for the time being," read the study.

This comes amid a global rollout of several vaccines to curb the spread of the global pandemic. But with multiple variants still posing a risk and future booster shots proposed by even the best vaccines, Israel's success may not last forever.

Schools and universities reopen amid vaccine success in Israel
"Life is now back to normal except for masks in closed places," wrote co-author of the paper Eran Segal, who is also a researcher at the Weizmann Institute, in a tweet. The scientists involved in the finding explained how mass vaccinations in Israel substantially reduced cases and hospitalizations in people more than 60 years old, "followed by younger age groups, by the order of vaccination prioritization," read the study. "This pattern was not observed in the previous lockdown and was more pronounced in early-vaccinated cities."

This means the vaccines successfully reduced case numbers and hospitalizations of and from the COVID-19 virus. "Our analysis demonstrates the real-life effect of a national vaccination campaign on the pandemic dynamics," added the team in the new study.

Segal outlined the promising numbers from Israel's vaccine rollout in a further tweet. Since the nation's last peak in mid-January, it saw 985 fewer cases, with 93% fewer people critically ill, and 87% fewer deaths. Following this apparent win against the COVID-19 crisis, the Israeli government let mask-wearing rules subside for outdoors — with all schools and universities reopening, according to an AP report.

The race is on to vaccinate the world before further COVID-19 mutations
However, the struggle against the COVID-19 virus isn't over. With several new variants of the coronavirus spreading — some with higher transmission rates — scientists are concerned about the longevity of the vaccines' protection. For example, Pfizer recently said a third shot will "likely" be required 12 months after the second shot. But Israel's success is contrasted sharply with similar efforts in the West Bank and Gaza — both territories under Israeli control — where progress has moved at a much slower pace.

Israel has received criticism for its lackluster efforts in helping Palestinian authorities to vaccinate its people. World Health Organization data shows Palestinians have experienced more than 21,600 cases — resulting in more than 2,670 deaths — of and from COVID-19 in the last month. "We are very concerned about the delayed and slow vaccination roll out," said Head of Mission in Palestine Ely Sok of Doctors Without Borders, in a statement late in March. "Frontline workers and high-risk groups in Palestine are nowhere near having protection from the disease."

Sadly, unless vaccinations in underserved regions are accelerated, the COVID-19 virus could mutate beyond the power of the present-day suite of vaccines — with the only means of evading this likelihood involving a more rapid and expansive rollout worldwide, according to Oxfam International. Even CEO Telsa Elon Musk has voiced support for vaccines in general "[and] covid vaccines specifically." Whether we beat the next wave of mutations or not, the race is officially on to bring an end to the COVID-19 crisis.

Johnson & Johnson try to claim that all the other COVID vaccines are also causing blood clots so their problem is not so bad. Of course, even the author of the study states they are peddling fiction.

If J&J has sunk to the level where they are shoveling bullshiat then things are not going to go very well for them in the upcoming safety reviews.

Johnson & Johnson said blood clots have been reported with all Covid-19 vaccines. The author of the study they cited says they're wrong.

More J&J troubles: Vaccine manufacturing halted and more possible clot cases
CDC advisory committee will meet Friday to decide the fate of the troubled vaccine.
    https://arstechnica.com/science/202...acturing-halted-and-more-possible-clot-cases/

The US Food and Drug Administration last week asked Emergent BioSolutions to stop making Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine at its troubled facility in Baltimore, according to a regulatory filing Emergent released Monday.

The FDA had begun an inspection of the contract manufacturer’s facility on April 12 but requested on April 16 that production be halted “pending completion of the inspection and remediation of any resulting findings,” the filing reads. Any vaccine materials already made at the plant will be held in quarantine.

The production halt follows news last month that a mishap at the plant led to the ruin of 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s one-shot COVID-19 vaccine. The ruined doses had reportedly been contaminated with ingredients from AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, which was also being manufactured at the plant at the time.

The accident was a major stumbling block for Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine production—but not a consumer safety issue. All of the doses of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine that have been used in the US so far have been produced in the Netherlands. The Emergent facility in Baltimore had not yet been authorized by the FDA for vaccine production when the doses were ruined, and none of the spoiled doses completed the production process.

Early this month, the Biden administration put Johnson & Johnson in charge of the facility and ordered AstraZeneca’s vaccine production out to prevent further cross-contamination problems. At the time, the company said that, despite the setback, it still expected to meet its commitment to deliver nearly 100 million doses of its vaccine to the US government by the end of May. But the current production pause again raises questions of whether the company will still be able to meet that goal.

"At this time, it is premature to speculate on any potential impact this could have on the timing of our vaccine deliveries” the company told Reuters.

In a statement to Politico, Emergent said:

While we await the FDA's full feedback, we are working with J&J and the FDA on strengthening the supply chain for this vitally important vaccine... We acknowledge that there are improvements we must make to meet the high standards we have set for ourselves and to restore confidence in our quality systems and manufacturing processes.

    Pause beyond pause
For now, Biden officials say they have enough vaccine supply from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech to continue the current pace of vaccinations, which has exceeded 3 million doses a day recently.

Regardless of the production pause, use of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine was already on pause as federal health experts and advisers review data linking the vaccine to an extremely rare but dangerous blood-clotting condition.

Last week, the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that, out of more than 6.8 million vaccine doses administered, they had identified six cases of the unusual condition, which leads to dangerous life-threatening blood clots in combination with low levels of platelets. One person died of the condition, and another was said to be in critical condition.

A vaccine advisory committee for the CDC, called ACIP, held an emergency meeting last week but punted on making any recommendations for use of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine going forward. Instead, the committee scheduled another public meeting for this Friday, April 23, from 11 am to 5 pm EDT where it will review further data and analyses.

In a White House press briefing Monday, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said that the agency had received additional reports of blood-clotting cases possibly linked to the vaccine.

There have been “a handful of cases, not an overwhelming number of cases,” Walensky said in the briefing. “We are working through and adjudicating them and verifying whether they do in fact reflect a true case." The CDC and the FDA will then present their findings to ACIP on Friday, she said.

  6. Yup. They are on their own to tidy that up.

The study he referenced was based on Moderna and Pfizer.

However, it is only the AstraZ- or one of the AZ's- that has also experienced the low platelet/blood clot combo and that factored was examined and the European Authority approved it nevertheless. And as a practical matter, comparing yourself with AZ in an approval process does not get you much gravitas these days.

Expect such behavior from all the pharma companies, especially as the ruskie and chinese vaccines cut into their markets. They will say scary things about those vaccines. Some of it will be true and some it will be something they pulled out of their arses as Johnson just did.

AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine: EMA finds possible link to very rare cases of unusual blood clots with low blood platelets

EMA confirms overall benefit-risk remains positive
EMA’s safety committee (PRAC) has concluded today that unusual blood clots with low blood platelets should be listed as very rare side effects of Vaxzevria (formerly COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca).

In reaching its conclusion, the committee took into consideration all currently available evidence, including the advice from an ad hoc expert group.

EMA is reminding healthcare professionals and people receiving the vaccine to remain aware of the possibility of very rare cases of blood clots combined with low levels of blood platelets occurring within 2 weeks of vaccination. So far, most of the cases reported have occurred in women under 60 years of age within 2 weeks of vaccination. Based on the currently available evidence, specific risk factors have not been confirmed.

The people who should be apologizing are the COVID-deniers like yourself who pushed for failed policies that killed over 500,000 Americans.
