Gregg "pass the buck" Abbott: https://thehill.com/homenews/state-...ges-speedy-vaccinations-says-doses-sitting-on Texas Gov. Abbott urges speedy vaccinations, says doses 'sitting on hospital shelves'
Just like the wall of stupid, except in this case, delivering actually matters: https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN29512W U.S. vaccinations in 2020 fall far short of target of 20 million people (Reuters) - Only about 2.8 million Americans had received a COVID-19 vaccine going into the last day of December, putting the United States far short of the government’s target to vaccinate 20 million people this month.
Wasn't that long ago you lefties were saying a vaccine before the end of the year was impossible, now you're complaining, (why am I not surprised at a leftist complaining), that not enough vaccines are being administered. Actually this should be glass half full news for you Covid ghouls. Fewer vaccines means more graves to dance on, right? See, stay positive lefty, always a silver lining somewhere.
Many understood the logistics of such a distribution without making it a political spectacle. Therefore, they knew distribution of the vaccine and then vaccination was not possible by end of year for +20 million Americans. In contrast, the Trump administration made the distribution a political spectacle by making promises just prior to the November 3rd elections...he promised with a smile on his face that 20 million will be vaccinated by year end in hopes to get more votes. Yet, his plan to secure more votes was derailed when the discovery of a vaccine (Pfizer and Moderna) was not announced by those companies until "after" November 3rd. In fact, Trump attempted to call them out for such and thought they were "in" with Biden even though those companies have no interest in the U.S. elections. That's what happens when someone makes a health crisis a political event...things just don't go as plan and all those political promises on how to manage a health crisis... Falls Short. Don't worry, Biden / Harris administration will get their turn at trying to fix the distribution problem and if they fail too like Trump / Pence administration...you guys can rightfully complain about their Covid-19 response failure... Fair is Fair. Nobody wants more deaths except for those consistently trying to post misinformation about Covid-19 and the response by the government and the response by the citizens for failure to do their part in protecting as many lives as possible. In my opinion, if the misinformation is consistent / continued by the same individuals...some countries are now going after (criminal arrests) their citizens for doing such. I think the United States should do the same beyond just letting social media like Facebook, Twitter to police their message content. Shame on any social media owner for not doing the same including forums like Elitetrader.com because misinformation allowed actually can kill and/or cause serious dangers to public health. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/covid-misinformation-is-killing-people1/ https://www.thequint.com/news/webqo...ld-are-curbing-covid-19-fake-news-coronavirus https://www.euronews.com/2020/08/29...-inciting-hatred-and-violence-on-social-media https://www.euronews.com/2020/08/05...growing-threat-to-coronavirus-vaccine-efforts wrbtrader
France vaccinated a whopping 138 people by the end of the year. They developed no vaccine, expected nothing for vaccine, expected nothing for distribution and achieved nothing. As they say, the secret to happiness is to keep lowering your expectations. Similarly, the Canadians had and have no plan for a vaccine other than to continue to put their begging bowl out there hoping the Americans will put something in it. The Americans dreamed big, and accomplished big.
The leading western COVID manufacturers have been stating since mid-summer that the vaccine would be available at the end of December if the medical trails go well. And mass distribution would occur in 2021. There were no rational people (who you call lefties apparently) saying the vaccine was impossible before the end of the year. What the mainstream medical community and rational people stated was that the vaccines should properly complete the normal Phase 3 efficacy and safety trials before being used. Unfortunately Trump was demanding the vaccine be released before election day. He made statements demanding why the FDA was taking so long and that he would take steps to release the vaccine by executive order. Of course, rushing a vaccine out before safety trials were completed in order to enhance Trump's election campaign would only serve to make the entire American population skeptical of the vaccine. In other words --- political-driven early release would be a disaster. The mainstream medical community and rational people objected to a vaccine release being rushed for political purposes... they never objected to the accelerated schedule and steps outlined by the vaccine manufacturers. Now the Trump administration is taking no responsibility for their disastrous vaccine distribution effort.
Build a vaccination corps to reopen America While our public health leaders know what must be done, their critical work could be supported by a national COVID-19 Vaccine Corps, a volunteer pool to help support the logistics of administering hundreds of millions of vaccine doses. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/01/02/opinion/build-vaccination-corps-reopen-america/ As the first coronavirus vaccines are administered across the country, federal and state leaders shouldconsider a plan to summon a tremendous, yet untapped reservoir of talent and energy to help lead us out of the pandemic — college students. Health care systems are increasingly overwhelmed caring for the ill; their workforces physically and mentally exhausted. Adding the responsibility of vaccinating the nation may push them to a breaking point. The pandemic also has revealed the consequences of a chronically underfunded public health infrastructure. While public health leaders know what must be done, their critical work could be supported by a national COVID-19 Vaccine Corps,a volunteer pool to help contact trace, inform, and support the logistics of distributing, administering, and tracking hundreds of millions of vaccine doses. To be sure, the notion of such a service corps is not unique nor far-fetched. Each Election Day a vast constellation of civic-minded individuals works at polling sites so voters can engage in the democratic process. Now, in a time of national emergency, this distinctly American model could be reimagined to engage undergraduate and graduate students, even recent graduates, as the foundation of a new national COVID-19 Vaccine Corps to support a vaccine distribution campaign that will last upwards of a year. Like poll workers, volunteers could be paid, or other incentives, such as student loan forgiveness and community service credits, could be considered. Why is such a concept essential and urgent? Consider the complex logistics associated with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines which require two doses: Pfizer’s three weeks after the first and Moderna’s four weeks later. This schedule will require extensive record-keeping and logistical coordination. How do we ensure that people return for the correct second dose at the correct time? Where can we safely accommodate large numbers of people seeking vaccination? How do we assist elderly or disabled people who live independently but are unable to drive to vaccine sites? Without a plan to address these fundamental questions and the people necessary to execute it, the vaccination effort and our nation’s ongoing recovery will be less than optimal. Students could fill any number of roles during the vaccine campaign. The most immediate would include: assisting with the vaccine intake process; transporting special populations to vaccine sites; completing documentation and record-keeping files; manning observation areas for individuals who just received a shot; administering the shot (in the case of specially trained nursing and other health professions students); and staffing phone banks tasked with appointment reminders or interpretive services. Colleges and universities, with special resources and infrastructure, could offer stadiums, gymnasiums, surface lots, and conference spaces as safe and ideal locations for community-wide vaccine administration as more vaccines become available to the general public. Indeed, as evidenced by UMass Lowell’s Recreation Center being repurposed as a COVID-19 field hospital, many colleges and universities are employing creative problem-solving right now. Related: ‘Personally, I’m incredibly frustrated’: Dr. Ashish Jha comments on ‘slow’ vaccine rollout The pandemic already has demonstrated that young adults, when called to service, will selflessly step forward. In March, as the new virus spread around the world and hospitals prepared for the worst, some medical schools, including UMass Medical School, worked with state leaders to graduate and license medical students two months early, allowing them to join patient care teams during the first surge. Their presence helped to save lives, and while their sacrifices were exceptional, they are not an anomaly. Currently, many young adults find themselves at home, taking online classes and seeking opportunities beyond the virtual realm to learn and serve, as most in-person experiential learning options have been all but eliminated. They are a vast talent pool waiting to be tapped. Students surely will answer the call if offered the chance to be part of an extraordinary and potentially life-changing experience that contributes to the success of America’s nascent vaccine campaign and helps restore aspects of life as we knew it. Health and public officials would be wise to mobilize a most precious and treasured resource — young people — to serve as the foundation for a well-trained, public service-oriented COVID-19 Vaccine Corps. The nation must not delay in utilizing this sizable group of motivated Americans who are ready, willing, and able to step up to assist with the unprecedented vaccine campaign that will help to usher in the end of this pandemic. It's gotten to the point that I hope Biden demands an FDA review that shit wasn't rushed through w/o proper oversight. We need guarantees that the #BidenVaccine is effective and safe.
