Covaxin, a vaccine developed in India, has been proven to have 77.8 per cent efficacy rate against the coronavirus, a study in the medical journal The Lancet has revealed.

A statement by the manufacturer Bharat Biotech International said: “the Lancet peer review confirms the efficacy analysis that demonstrates Covaxin to be effective against Covid-19.”

CDC shifts pandemic goals away from reaching herd immunity

Many Americans embraced the novel farmyard phrase, and with it, the projection that once 70% to 80% or 85% of the population was vaccinated against COVID-19, the virus would go away and the pandemic would be over.

Now the herd is restless. And experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have set aside herd immunity as a national goal.

The prospects for meeting a clear herd-immunity target are "very complicated," said Dr. Jefferson Jones, a medical officer on the CDC’s COVID-19 Epidemiology Task Force.

“Thinking that we’ll be able to achieve some kind of threshold where there’ll be no more transmission of infections may not be possible,” Jones acknowledged last week to members of a panel that advises the CDC on vaccines.

Too many not vaccinated Covidiots out there refusing to be vaccinated and too much Covid misinformation...herd immunity will never be achieved.

Therefore, the Pandemic will persist much longer than people want and this will encourage suffering for most (e.g. higher consumer prices, delays in goods, and many other increasing costs).

The real pain will not be felt until the FEDs begin increasing rates again. The poor will get poorer and the rich will get richer. Yet, this isn't new... it has happened before in another Pandemic. :(

    It is what it is.

The good thing, those vaccinated will slowly get back to normal although that normal will be much different in a new economic environment.

The FED increasing rates will just hurt the 401Ks. All the upper-classmen will be safe, because as you said, they are rich.

The little people are going to have to bite a serious bullet. And do you know why? Because they are STUPID. OMG, steak is up a buck per pound? Then stop buying steak! Buy Mac n' Cheese. Learn to compromise. Yes, I realize there are fixed costs like gasoline for the car and whatnot...But home-heating oil? Turn the thermostat down 7 degrees, and wear some sweaters and wool socks. WTF!

It's not the end of the world unless you make it the end of the world. There is no such thing as a no-win scenario.

Demand for first pediatric doses of coronavirus vaccine at US base in Europe proves overwhelming
    https://www.stripes.com/theaters/eu...ronavirus-doses-arrive-in-europe-3592916.html

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Parents spent hours calling and waiting Friday to grab the first COVID-19 vaccination appointments for children ages 5 to 11 at the largest U.S. military hospital in Europe, while other commands on the Continent made preparations to receive the doses.

The rollout of coronavirus shot appointments, available next week for younger children at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, was bumpy in some instances, leading some parents to voice frustrations on social media.

A Facebook message Wednesday afternoon announcing availability didn’t mention the shutdown of the appointment line for Veterans Day, though a hospital patient registration office remained open.

The appointment line typically closes on federal holidays, LRMC spokesman Marcy Sanchez said.

The crush of calls Friday “all at once” took the hospital by surprise, he added.

LRMC officials have said they would update the community when the pediatric vaccine was received, and it came in sooner than expected, Sanchez said.

Zydus Cadila's COVID vaccine to be administered only to adults as of now, say sources
The three doses of ZyCoV-D are to be administered 28 days apart. The vaccine was given emergency use authorisation (EUA) by the Indian drug regulator on 20 August
    https://www.firstpost.com/india/zyd...to-adults-as-of-now-say-sources-10136141.html

New Delh: Zydus Cadila's COVID-19 vaccine ZyCov-D, which has been cleared by India's drug regulator for those aged 12 years and above, will only be administered to adults as of now under the government's national anti- Coronavirus vaccination programme, sources said on Sunday.

The health ministry has given a go ahead to initiate the preparatory work for the inclusion of the indigenously-developed, needle-free jab in the national COVID inoculation drive and it can be introduced in the programme anytime soon.

The ministry has already placed a purchase order with the Ahmedabad-based firm for one crore doses of the vaccine.

"ZyCov-D, which has been cleared by India's drug regulator for those aged 12 years and above, will be given only to adults as of now under the national COVID vaccination drive," an official source said.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday said the government does not want to make haste about administering COVID vaccines to children and any decision in this regard will be taken based on expert opinion.

He said children are not being inoculated against COVID-19 on a large scale anywhere in the world, though it has been initiated in some countries in a limited manner. "About vaccinating the children, we will take a decision based on expert opinion. We have decided to think and evaluate before going ahead with vaccinating children as they are the future of our country and we need to tread with caution in this matter," Mandaviya had said.

Meanwhile, a comprehensive programme for paediatric immunisation, including developing a priority list of comorbidities, is being worked out by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI).

ZyCov-D is the first Covid vaccine cleared by India's drug regulator for inoculation of those aged 12 years and above.

As for the emergency use approval for Bharat Biotech's Covaxin in the age group of two to 18 years by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), it is under expert opinion and evaluation, official sources said.

For administering ZyCov-D to adults, frontline workers and vaccinators will be provided a brief training for using the needle-free applicator in actual field settings.

At present, every citizen aged above 18 years is eligible for COVID vaccination.

Drug firm Zydus Cadila on November 8 said it had received an order to supply one crore doses of its COVID vaccine, ZyCoV-D, to the Indian government at Rs 265 per dose.

"Zydus Cadila has received an order to supply one crore doses of ZyCoV-D, the world's first Plasmid DNA Vaccine, to the Government of India at Rs 265 per dose and the needle-free applicator is being offered at Rs 93 per dose, excluding GST," the pharma firm said in a regulatory filing.

The vaccine will be administered using a needle-free applicator as opposed to the traditional syringes. The applicator is called "PharmaJet".

PharmaJet is a needle-free applicator to ensure painless intradermal vaccine delivery, which also leads to a significant reduction in any kind of major side effects. ZyCoV-D is the first DNA plasmid vaccine in the world for human use, developed indigenously by the company against COVID-19 , Zydus Cadila said.

The three doses of ZyCoV-D are to be administered 28 days apart. The vaccine was given emergency use authorisation (EUA) by the Indian drug regulator on 20 August.
