New data suggests Canada's 'gamble' on delaying, mixing and matching COVID-19 vaccines paid off

Early data suggests strong protection against delta, no evidence for boosters in the general population yet...

Quebec data backs up findings from B.C.

In Quebec, thousands of kilometres away and with a different population, demographic makeup and early vaccine rollout approach — the results of a twin study that will be published alongside the B.C. data were astonishingly similar.

Of the 181 people who died from COVID-19 from May 30 to Sept. 11 in Quebec, just three were fully vaccinated. Researchers say that corresponds to a vaccine effectiveness against death upwards of 97 per cent based on a population analysis of nearly 1.3 million people.

Similar to the B.C. data, the Quebec research also showed more than 92 per cent protection from hospitalizations — with Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccines — against all circulating coronavirus variants of concern in Canada at that time, including delta...

The NACI recommendation in March to delay second doses of all three COVID-19 vaccines by up to four months was not without controversy at the time, and no doubt led to confusion among many Canadians about whether they were adequately protected.

Canada's Chief Science Adviser Mona Nemer said in early March that the strategy amounted to a "population level experiment," while at the same time health officials tried to reassure the public that the approach was safe and effective.

Deepta Bhattacharya, an immunologist at the University of Arizona who was not involved in the study, says the results are "very encouraging" and provide evidence of "improved real world protection" from delaying second doses.

But he admits even he was initially skeptical.

"I was uneasy about it in large part because I just wasn't sure how well the protection would hold up in the interim," he said. "Obviously it turned out well … but it was risky, and that gamble paid off."

Bhattacharya says the Canadian data now provides real world evidence that vaccinated people produce more antibodies if their second shot is delayed, and the quality of those antibodies may actually improve — which could explain the better protection against delta.

"What I'm really wondering now going forward is whether the recommendations are going to fundamentally change as to when we should get that second shot," he said, referring to other countries around the world. "I wish I'd gotten mine later now in retrospect."

Keeping 'eye on the prize' means avoiding hospitalization

The data also has implications on whether average Canadians need booster shots, particularly given that emerging real world data in other countries like the U.S., Israel and Qatar show evidence of waning immunity that has prompted the rollout of third doses.

But experts caution that while countries reporting diminished vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 infection may be making headlines, the more important factor is that the studies largely show the vaccines have prolonged protection against severe COVID-19 — meaning hospitalization and death.

"We really should keep our eyes on the prize, which is preserving healthcare system capacity and preventing unnecessary suffering," said Skowronski. "We're not going to prevent every case of COVID-19. Our goal was never to prevent the sniffles. Our goal was to prevent serious outcomes."

The time is long over where we are going to debunk post after post of nonsense you find from dubious anti-vax Covid-denier sources on social media.

Covid misinformation has killed then of thousands of people. Have you no shame?

So you can't point out one of the so-called false statements. Just your usual redirection of bullshit that essentially goes no where.

    Every time.

We can assess our own risk when it means we want a booster. But not when we don't want to vaccinate. Then we can't be trusted. The hypocrisy of the Covid Priests is just astonishing.

As posted multiple times since the start of vaccination...know your health history with prior vaccinations. Have a physical and blood chemistry work prior to vaccinations to determine which vaccines are suitable and which are not suitable for you.
    • Too many people take any vaccines blindly...its been a problem for +50 years now.
My teenagers were not suitable for Moderna. In fact, when we registered for vaccination back in March on the vaccination portal when you input your healthcard number...only one vaccine showed up on the list as available for my teenagers. It was Pfizer even though we had already been told by our family Doctor and HealthCanada that Moderna was not recommended for teenagers.

As for myself, J&J and Astra Zeneca vaccines are not suitable for me because I'm allergic to some of the ingredients in those two particular vaccines which is why my Doctor recommended the Moderna vaccine to me.

In fact, when my Doctor and I register for my vaccination in the vaccination portal via my healthcard...
    • J&J and Astra Zeneca vaccines were not shown as available vaccines for me.
Thus, there must have already been a link back to my 2016 hospitalization medical history in which I had a severe allergic reaction to a particular medication when I was in a Coma from Pneumonia.

Fast forward to here in 2021, on my vaccine portal list were Moderna and Pfizer while my girlfriend on another computer...Pfizer, Moderna, J&J, and Astra Zeneca were available to her on the vaccine portal.
    • A week later, I was vaccinated with Moderna at my Doctor's office.
By the way, Myocarditis & Heart Murmurs are a big concern for me because I've had it twice in my youth...once after having the Flu and a 2nd time after a Flu vaccination. At that particular time, my parents and I were told that it's harmless and that it will clear up on its own without the need for any medication but I was not allowed to train in rowing nor exercise for about a month.

It did clear up on its own in a few weeks but it took the Heart Murmur about a month to clear up. During that time duration, I was not allowed to compete on the Jr. National Rowing team.

Myocarditis & Heart Murmur was found in me when we had to complete a physical that included heart tests, stress tests, and blood chemistry tests with the team Doctors prior to being allowed to train the 1st time...I had the Flu vaccination about 2 weeks earlier.

Two others on the team were flagged with Myocarditis...they had recovered from the FLU about a month earlier.

Key Facts about Recent Moderna Halts

The Standing Commission on Vaccination (STIKO), a body of experts that advise German states on vaccination policy, said only the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine should be offered to people under the age of 30.

Young recipients of Pfizer’s shot showed slightly lower rates of heart inflammation than those who received the Moderna shot, the group said, according to multiple news outlets.

The draft recommendation, which covers both booster vaccines and those receiving their first shots, will now be evaluated, and possibly revised, by a separate group of experts and the German states, according to Deutsche Welle.

Health experts in France put forward a similar recommendation earlier this week, citing a nationwide study suggesting a “very rare” risk of heart inflammation linked to the Moderna vaccine.

The body, which advises the French healthcare sector, said the risk of rare heart inflammation in under 30s appears to be around five times less with Pfizer’s shot than Moderna’s, according to Reuters.

    ----------

The first halt in Moderna here in Canada, there were less than 30 cases in another country in which all cases were resolved on their own except for one that required hospitalization. All cases involved young Men and many of the very active in sports...after millions of vaccine shots to young men.

All resolved on their own except for one that required ICU admission for a few days.
    • This is what I remember about my two cases with Myocarditis as a youth with the FLU and FLU vaccine. There was a link between teenage youths (boys), tall youths, and participation in active sports. The cases were similar to the number of Myocarditis in those that were not vaccinated with the Flu vaccine.
Today, with the 1st temporary halt in Moderna back in March in which my teenagers weren't allowed to get Moderna...there's no mentioning of the common links in the cases except that they were youths and men.

The United States Military has had 20 cases of Myocarditis per million vaccine dosages and Isreal has had less than 100 cases per million vaccine dosages. In one of those cases, I personally know one person...he's an infantry soldier and a marathon runner.

In the recent Moderna temporary halt, France has had 132 cases of Myocarditis per million vaccine dosages. Statistically, Myocarditis is a very rare condition.
    • Currently, there's no halt in the United States for teenagers because Moderna still is not approved for teenagers in the United States nor in Canada...
Moderna is still under review for young men / teenagers in the United States and Canada. I think its been under review for several months.

P.S. TT we've been calling out your Covid misinformation since the Sweden threads. Most recently in this thread, I called you out for your Covid misinformation about Gov. Gavin Newsom having a severe injury to the vaccine.

    What is Myocarditis ?

Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle. While myocarditis can be serious, it is frequently mild and can fully resolve with appropriate treatment. Symptoms can include abnormal heart rhythms, shortness of breath, or chest pain. Myocarditis can be caused by viruses, like the common cold, seasonal flu and COVID-19.

    ---------

There's a pattern in my repeat of the importance in getting a complete physical and full blood chemistry tests prior to vaccination to ensure you're suitable for a Covid vaccination. Then repeat the complete physical and full blood chemistry tests about 30 days after your Covid vaccination.

The reason I've been saying the above since Covid vaccines began is because there are other illnesses / diseases that can cause Myocarditis that are much more common and more serious than Myocardis itself.

Simply, if the individual has any of the below problems impacting their health condition...they should not be taking any Covid vaccination unless approved by their Doctor that has a full understanding of your current health status with any of the below problems prior to your vaccination.

    ----------

    Causes

Viral infection is the most common cause of myocarditis.

When you have one, your body produces cells to fight the virus. These cells release chemicals. If the disease-fighting cells enter your heart, some chemicals they release can inflame your heart muscle.

Other common causes that can cause myocarditis include:
Fungal and parasitic infections can also cause it.

Other causes include certain chemicals or allergic reactions to medications or toxins like:
    https://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/myocarditis

This is why individuals need to have complete physical and full blood chemistry tests prior to vaccination to ensure they're in good health and suitable for a Covid vaccination...

Next, do the same exams/tests again about 30 days after the Covid vaccination.

Currently, most vaccination places in the world will only ask you a question or two related to your current health status. Thus, there are no physicals and no blood chemistry tests prior to vaccination...as in taking a vaccine blindly.
