Covid: Moderna jab approved for teenagers in EU
    BBC - https://tinyurl.com/2ahzkt3v

The European Medicines Agency has approved use of Moderna's Covid vaccine for children aged between 12 and 17.

It is the second Covid jab to be approved for adolescents by the EU's medicines authority - in May, the Pfizer-BioNTech one got the go-ahead.

The US-made Moderna jab requires two doses, four weeks apart, the EMA says.

The European Commission is expected to widen vaccination with Moderna to young people now, based on the EMA's recommendation.

But the move is likely to have its critics, as the vaccination rate in most of Asia and Africa - where millions of adults risk serious illness or death from Covid - is far lower than in the EU, where more than half of adults are now fully vaccinated.

The World Health Organization has urged wealthy countries to spread vaccines much more widely globally.

However, supporters argue widening vaccination to children is important now that the highly infectious Delta variant is widespread in Europe and cases are rising sharply in some areas. Children also have to be included if the goal of herd immunity is to be reached - that is, when a high level of vaccination slows the virus's spread in the population.

Most children do not get seriously ill from Covid, but they are still at risk and can pass it on.

The EMA says a study with the Moderna jab, involving 3,732 children aged 12 to 17, found responses similar to those in young adults aged 18 to 25.

In that study, none of those who received the vaccine developed Covid-19, whereas four given a dummy vaccine did get Covid symptoms.

The study's small size meant uncommon side-effects, such as the risk of heart inflammation, could not be assessed among the 12-17 age group. But the EMA judges that the benefits of vaccination with the Moderna jab outweigh any risks.

The vaccine, called Spikevax, is already being given to adults in the EU. Like the Pfizer jab it contains RNA, a molecule that triggers new antibodies so that the body is trained to attack any real Covid infection.

Spikevax is also being given to adults in the US and Canada, and Moderna is seeking authorisation there to administer it to adolescents too.

Wuhan-19 is here to stay as you and I have stated before. People will get this every year. Politicians love the fact that they can keep exerting their unauthorized authority with these less dangerous variants. GXB and ilk love the fact that they can continue their schadenfreude with regard to American's liberty.

There is clear evidence that vaccinated people who get sick with COVID don't tend to spread it to others in public spaces.... in other words vaccinated people are not very infectious when infected with a breakthrough case and have a lower viral load -- even with the Delta variant. This information is from Israel which is carefully tracking millions of people.

80% of vaccinated COVID carriers didn’t infect anyone in public spaces — report
Health Ministry data indicates that just 3% of immunized people who contracted breakthrough infections spread it to 2-3 others at concerts, restaurants, gyms
    https://www.timesofisrael.com/80-of...s-didnt-spread-virus-in-public-spaces-report/

Health Ministry data indicates that 80 percent of vaccinated individuals who recently contracted breakthrough infections of COVID-19 have not infected others in public places, according to a television report on Saturday.

According to the research, the vast majority (80%) of immunized COVID-19 carriers did not spread the virus to anyone else while at concerts, restaurants, gyms or event halls, Channel 12 reported.

Another 10% spread the virus to one other person at these venues, and 3% infected two or three others (for the remaining 7%, it’s unclear whether they were responsible for infecting others), according to the network. The report did not offer details on how many were infected by unvaccinated individuals at these sites.

The data was publicized after ministers approved reinstating the “Green Pass” on Thursday, limiting attendance at large events to those who are vaccinated, have recovered from COVID-19, or who present a valid negative test result.

The renewed restrictions will apply to both indoor and outdoor events with over 100 participants, starting on July 29. The requirement to present proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test from the past 72 hours will only apply to people 12 and older. Under that age, there will be no restrictions, though rules for those under 12 are expected to be announced in the future.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said the Green Pass will also be reinstated at sporting events, gyms, restaurants, conferences, tourist attractions and houses of worship, while stressing there won’t be capacity limitations on gatherings or at these venues.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the country would start requiring the unvaccinated to pay out of pocket for COVID tests.

“There is no reason that taxpayers and those who fulfill their civic duty to get vaccinated will fund tests for those who refuse to get vaccinated,” he said. It was not immediately clear if this would also apply to school children.

Bennett issued a fresh appeal for all Israelis to get the coronavirus vaccine, accusing those eligible to get vaccinated who have not done so of endangering the rest of the country.

“One million Israelis are refusing to get vaccinated,” Bennett said. “They are endangering the entire population, they are endangering the other 8 million citizens in the country.”

He warned that the vaccine holdouts could cause the government to impose the fourth national lockdown since the pandemic began.

Government figures show that over 5.7 million Israelis have received at least one shot of the coronavirus vaccine.

Those age 19 and under are responsible for more than 20% of all cases, but just 40% of those between 10 and 19 have gotten at least one shot. Vaccines are offered to those aged 12 and up.

According to new Health Ministry figures released Saturday, 1,430 new cases were confirmed on Friday, with a further 670 cases since midnight, bringing active infections to 11,102. The number of patients in serious condition rose to 89, and one fatality took the death toll to 6,458.

Public health chief Sharon Alroy-Preis said on Saturday that officials were debating whether to offer a third booster shot to Israelis, or to wait for a vaccine that is specifically tailored for the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

“We are checking if we should give a third dose, or whether we should wait for a vaccine against Delta,” the head of public health at the Health Ministry told Channel 12.

The comment came after a Health Ministry committee on vaccines reportedly voted on Thursday against recommending a third booster shot for the elderly, saying it would be more effective to wait for a vaccine specifically targeting the Delta variant that is being developed by Pfizer.

According to the report by the Kan public broadcaster, the committee members said that even though the effectiveness of the vaccines appears to be wearing off, it would be more effective to wait for a booster shot tailored to the strain. The final decision will now go to Health Ministry Director-General Nachman Ash.

Last week, Israel began administering booster doses to those with weakened immune systems, including heart, liver and kidney transplant patients, despite the lack of approval from overseas regulatory agencies.

But Health Ministry officials have indicated that third doses for the general population are not imminent, stressing that the vaccine remains largely effective.

Alroy-Preis also said on Saturday that the COVID-19 pandemic “is still here, we need to learn to live with it.”

As Israelis increasingly make international trips, Alroy-Preis emphasized the need for quarantine regulations to be obeyed and said that the Health Ministry was working to identify the level of risks in other countries.

“We have to understand that the tests are not 100 percent [as a measure]. We have known this for a while. Tests are not an alternative to quarantine,” she said.

After COVID morbidity and mortality reached record lows, following a mass vaccination campaign, Israel has seen a jump in infections that has been largely blamed on the Delta variant.

Israel may vaccinate children against COVID-19 in schools, according to a report on Friday, as the country moves toward the start of the school year amid a resurgent wave of coronavirus cases.

The government has been campaigning to get as many children aged 12 and up vaccinated, and could require those who are not to present negative tests before being allowed into school, a report from Channel 12 said.

The report came as the health and education ministries are expected to publish their proposals for the upcoming school year on Sunday. Most schools return at the end of August, but ultra-Orthodox schools start on August 8th.

    https://www.cdc.gov/csels/dls/locs/...-Changes_CDC_RT-PCR_SARS-CoV-2_Testing_1.html

07/21/2021: Lab Alert: Changes to CDC RT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2 Testing

    Audience: Individuals Performing COVID-19 Testing

    Level: Laboratory Alert

After December 31, 2021, CDC will withdraw the request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel, the assay first introduced in February 2020 for detection of SARS-CoV-2 only. CDC is providing this advance notice for clinical laboratories to have adequate time to select and implement one of the many FDA-authorized alternatives.

Visit the FDA website for a list of authorized COVID-19 diagnostic methods. For a summary of the performance of FDA-authorized molecular methods with an FDA reference panel, visit this page.

In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses. Such assays can facilitate continued testing for both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 and can save both time and resources as we head into influenza season. Laboratories and testing sites should validate and verify their selected assay within their facility before beginning clinical testing.

I suspect that a very large number of positives were false. In addition, I believe that an absolutely huge number of folks had Kung Flu and never knew it. ---In excess of 320 million Americans have now either contracted Kung Flu or have antibodies, which includes folks with T Cell immunity. Herd immunity continues as you can see with the ever improving numbers.

    https://www.osha.gov/coronavirus/faqs#vaccine

Are adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine recordable on the OSHA recordkeeping log?

DOL and OSHA, as well as other federal agencies, are working diligently to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations. OSHA does not wish to have any appearance of discouraging workers from receiving COVID-19 vaccination, and also does not wish to disincentivize employers’ vaccination efforts. As a result, OSHA will not enforce 29 CFR 1904’s recording requirements to require any employers to record worker side effects from COVID-19 vaccination through May 2022. We will reevaluate the agency’s position at that time to determine the best course of action moving forward.

Why would OSHA record vaccination side effects -- this is the job of the CDC.

Even for existing vaccinations (MMR, etc.) this is the job of the CDC and not OSHA... In what alternate reality would OSHA be expected to record vaccine side-effects for workplaces.
