Moderna and the several of the other companies have the long range goal - not all that far out- to develop cancer/oncology related mRNA vaccines. In the meantime they are trying to get a piece of the vaccine pie to get their mRNA technology up and running and maybe make a few bucks on volume. But once you get into all the cancer related treatments and potential vaccines that is whole nuther pricing model and reimbursement model too. You know when you start playing in areas where you get 30-40k for a chemo therapy or some specific cutting edge medicine and the patient needs it every other week, well, let's just say, that's the business they love. So that is where they want to be on the other side of the pandemic and all the McVaccine dollars from high volume. Biontech just went to trials on a mRNA vaccine for melanoma. MORE TO COME. As an aside, you have to watch out for some of the players who dropped out of the covid vaccine race, because some of them are still very much in the mRNA vaccine research business but have decided that it is a crowded field now and are trying to leapfrog ahead to the post covid needs. Competitive business. But yeh, Moderna has plenty of places to go with their mRNA skillset beyond covid. Fauci will be retired and on their board sometime in the next couple years too which will keep their relations with the FDA more than peppy. Moderna's covid vaccine was co-tested in the NIH labs which got it into a favorable status very early on. He loves them. And he hates AstraZ.
