    Hi all!
Lappie prob. Connected ext. monitor, problem started.
No display! Primary or ext monitor. Asus laptop, boots up, manufacturers name appears on screen, window XP display appears- then blank screen. Can hear laptop doing what it should, but no visuals!

    Many thanks for your help!

  2. Two thoughts

    (1) Try booting into safe mode in XP

    (2) If the machine is networked and you have remote desktop enabled then using remote desktop (RDP) to connect to it remotely and have a look around

My laptop has an external/internal display function key on the keyboard but it always sends the display to one or the other (or both) so I can't see how that is your problem. You may want to see if you have something equivalent or a bios setting. I'm assuming you tried unplugging the external monitor since plugging that in apparently caused the problem?

    Good luck

Edit: Googling for Asus laptop and display function keys I found this, I have no idea if this works for your Asus model though:

    Fn+F7 LCD on/off
    Fn+F8 LCD/CRT switch display
