Laptop and Vista

  1. In the market for a new laptop which will be used for some occasional trading. I've heard that vista is quite a resource hog? What amount of cpu power and ram do I need in a new laptop to run vista smoothly (along with trading software)?

  2. Vista is not that bad of a resource hog. People need to realize that the system idle process will find work for the ram to do when there isn't other things going on. So people freak out because a fair proportion of ram is being used when they are essentially idling.

But it is true that Vista needs more ram than XP in most scenarios. I would say you can't go wrong with 2gb and it is pretty cost efficient right now.

If you have a dual core you might consider 4gb of course. (2 ea)

Edit: Sorry, you are talking about a laptop. I really only know about desktop stuff so if there is some strange cost curve to stuffing too much stuff into a laptop then let me know.
