I thought the U.S. Constitution dictates a separation of state and church. As far as I know, most of the founding fathers were not Christians.

This is not about daytime TV, or related to children. I agree that certain content should not be aired at certain times. But if things even get censored at midnight, there is little point in that., I guess

What's funny is that hardcore porn is legal in the US, while forbidden in both the UK and Norway. I'm not defending that, of course, but it makes the Puritan argument rather futile.

Do you honestly think that a single "fuck" should be censored at 11PM? Does the adult population of the US not have the ability to decide for themselves what they want, or doesn't want, to hear/see?

Didn't Jack Bauer chop off a guy's head in prime time?

  2. See previous post.

Also, yes, violence and head chopping, no problem. Say bad words, oh no. See Santorum and other social conservatives on this. The Crusades, no problem. Seeing people having sex, or say f***, no way.

I'm from Norway. I have, and possibly rightfully so, deluded myself into thinking that I have a decent command of the English language, but I probably shouldn't be posting at 3AM.

I agree that blogs and fora can be a source of both poor language and poor taste, and I try my best not add on to that problem.

Yes, I understand that. Other countries have cut-off times, such as 9 or 10 PM. I find it odd that the U.S. deviates from that common practice.

However, what baffles me the most is that everything goes on cable.

Yes, if I remember correctly, the Texas Board of Education removed Thomas Jefferson from a section of a schoolbook devoted to great political thinkers?

That was my point, really. Why is the government wasting resources on petty things like this.

The Westboro Baptist Church can protest military funerals in especially distasteful ways, but I can't hear the punchline of a joke? I simply can't fathom it.

  6. I understand your concern. It's deplorable that a few right wing extremists can actually make this kind of thing happen.
