IMO, Kroger's stock price will drop when the FTC gives this deal approval. For now, $46 is a sell. Long term however, it's a steal. Or an incredible value, depending on how one defines "steal" and its associated time-frame.
Last night the newest episode of "The Food that Built America", titled Supermarket Sweep aired on the History channel. It is about Kroger and Piggly Wiggly. The series as a whole is recommended viewing... project yourself to a place in time before the American way of life was a thing.

Hatch Chiles are Back at Kroger Seasonal customer favorite returns; sourced directly from local farms in Hatch, New Mexico CINCINNATI, July 27, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) today shared that seasonal customer favorite, fresh Private Selection™ Hatch Chiles, are now available for a limited time at Kroger Family of Stores nationwide. Grown on local farms in the Hatch Valley of southwestern New Mexico's Rio Grande region, Hatch Chiles are picked, packed and shipped in a single day, hitting shelves in as little as 24-hours after harvest. The Kroger Co. Logo (PRNewsFoto/The Kroger Co.) (PRNewsFoto/The Kroger Co.) "We're going to farming communities like Hatch, New Mexico, to bring customers the freshest, most unique produce across the U.S. and support local growers," said Dan De La Rosa, group vice president of Fresh Merchandising for Kroger. "We are incredibly proud to offer customers products that are at their peak freshness, sourced directly from the fields of farmers who enable us to feed families across America." The soil, weather and altitude of Hatch, New Mexico, contribute to bountiful crops producing thousands of acres of delectable chiles. To qualify as an authentic Hatch Chile, the vegetable must be grown in the Hatch Valley and labeled a New Mexico Certified Chile. "The relationship we have with Kroger is very special for us," said Chris Franzoy, fourth-generation Hatch Chile farmer and President of Young Guns Produce. "This is something we depend on as a company, as a family and as a community because it creates so many jobs, and that is extremely important, especially in a small town like Hatch, New Mexico." To celebrate the Hatch Chile season, Kroger is hosting more than 4,000 live store roasting events. Hatch roasting tips: Hatch Chiles are typically enjoyed roasted to bring out peak flavor. To roast chiles at home, the retailer recommends following these simple instructions: Grill: Place the chiles directly onto a hot grill. When the bottoms begin to turn black, charred or blistered, use tongs to turn the chiles over and repeat on the other side. Stovetop: Hold chiles over your stove's gas flame with a long fork or tongs while roasting on all sides. Oven: Place chiles under the broiler. When they blacken, turn chiles over and roast the other side. After roasting is complete, place the chiles in a paper or plastic bag, seal tightly and allow chiles to sit for approximately 10 minutes to cool. Once cool, remove skins and enjoy right away or freeze to enjoy in your favorite recipes all year long.
The heat difference between Hatch and Anaheims(Hatch planted in Ca.) is so subtle. Have you made rellenos with Anchos-Passillas?
ACI (Albertsons) had a GREAT quarter and it didn't budge. I still think KR will initially dip on the (if) approval of the takeover, and that will be one to let the dust settle for a few sessions, maybe more, and then buy in. It could still dip to the mid to high $30's imo. At which point, mortgage the farm and buy the stock. With a long term horizon of course. The top is close right now all things being equal.... if it were to spike on an FTC approval, which is possible I guess, I'd still wait... and set the entry somewhere around $46.... and that is only if it were to spike and hold the gains on volume.
Are they real hot? I'm not a big fan of super-hot peppers anymore. I used to be. Look at Krogers go. $49.26. Up 8.1% from the original $45.50 shout-out. I see the Q's are up a whopping .52% over the same time period. Funny thing how this game hasn't changed a bit since the days of Jessie Livermoore isn't it?
They’re great, more mild and sweeter than Hatch. I like the mouth blistering Reapers and Scorpions. Ancho-Passilla
Never heard of the Scorpion peppers... the ghosties are pretty hot though. Soooo.... here we go again.... The markets wait with baited breath on the great Amazon and Apple quarters. The whole world stops. CNBC's one day viewership hits a 90 day high..... This stuff is so laughable. Like anything, good or bad, has really changed in the last 3 months. Sorry, but it's the province of idiots. Do your homework, buy well run companies with solid balance sheets and great growth prospects when they're cheap.... then sit back and enjoy the sheep-show... tailor made for short term suckers.
