A great idea - the timing is obviously critical to success, but never discussed, as if it were somehow obvious.
Obviously beginner levels' trading points are not optimized so your winners are smaller and your losers are larger. When you find yourself on the wrong side of the market you may not already be in a positive trade. This happens especially in case of cancellation, fanning or acceleration, and even more if you don't pay enough attention to volume. If you trade a slower fractal errors can become expensive. If you trade a faster fractal you can get into resolution problems. So, you better stick with the traverse level (3 price / 4 volume segments), and you should be profitable. Too bad that Jack doesn't want to get down "dirty" and detail the trading points ...
Hi I just put up k200 in IB, I get a blank line, nothing for bid, ask or last. Is that normal? Does K200 start rading around 11 PM EST? Thanks
KOSPI trading starts at 8pm EST and end around 2am EST. Did you subscribe to the exchange? You need it to get the data. I do not remember, but I think it is free. Also, make sure you select June contract.
Getting down and dirty is where the rubber meets the road. The OP is interested in the instrument and the way anyone gets set up to see the instrument and be able to relate to it as a trader. The down and dirty part comes from monitoring the instrument's variables analyzing the order of events and making decisions to take timely action. The instrument is classic in its volume and price relationship; therefore, it is an instrument that makes it possible to move through the various levels of knowledge and skills quite rapidly. I think ET works best when there is moderation and the OP coordindates the content he wishes. He stated it was best to take the trading aspect of the instrument elsewhere. I don't have any wants, but I did feel that getting the monitoring down cold was a first step in being able to trade this instrument. Is there a charts thread going anywhere?
Does anyone have a lot of experience with the KOSPI? I've been trading it a few times over the past few months, mainly just watching it whenever I get a chance. I notice that the volumes are pretty high, but it's not very volatile. The funny thing is that I don't see a lot of actual trades, just high volume. Does anyone know why this is? As an index, it seems to creep along, and doesn't really have a strong trending tendency, unlike the HSI. Also, the one thing I've noticed when I watch the KOSPI on a 1 second chart, is that often times I'll see spikes of 500+ contracts traded, but there is no way the market depth could have supported that without surging up. I videoed this to see exactly what was going on, and I noticed that at least via market depth on IB, the DOM doesn't change, but it just registers a trade of 400 contracts at a price level. Huh?? Does anyone have any recommendations for a broker with better quotes, ie. ticks for KOSPI?
Hi Glopsod, Can you please stop posting the same info over and over. You already made your point with the first post. redduke
No futures contract is as volatile as HSI, but HSI volatility is not of much use due to it being extremely thin with high spread. Some days KOSPI is stuck in 1 point range (20 ticks), but even then 20 ticks give some room to trade. Many days have around 2 points range. If you open IB T&S, you will see that all these large size "trades" do not appear there, but 3rd party front end applications show them. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what they are, and the best I can say is that they are just bad ticks, and I just ignore them since they are not affecting the market in any way.
