    Rat:
    >except SDA has no connection to mormonism
    >whatsoever.

A: We weren't SDA, and the folks in Texas aren't Mormans (just ask the LDS church).

C: It has everything to do with it. You think religion is about the message? ... theist will argue endlessly about this version of which story will get you to 'heaven' and who had what visit from who -- don't matter a lick, it's about the control. Always about the control.

    >no angel moroni.. no american indians
    >being the true israelites?

No, instead we had angels visiting one WD Frazee (rather than Joseph Smith) and all his versions of accompanying crap. I just love it when one religion thinks other religions are strange.

    >so do you blame your religion or the individuals
    >that committed the crimes?

    The individuals ARE the religion.

Thanks TL and nutmeg. It's been more than 30 years now since I left and I'm doing fine. It's my sisters that I feel the worst for -- true victims.

One sister has been out for ~15 years ... left her husband, remarried and doing well. One sister still in. Mother still in. Dad out and doing fine.

    Life happens.

  3. Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS Church) is one of the largest Mormon fundamentalist denominations[1][2] and one of America's largest practitioners of plural marriage.

and your little sect broke away from SDA too. im sorry you suffered because of your parents' choices... i find those leaders to be disgusting too.

    Rat:
    >so you blame guns for deaths?

There are no simple answers to those sorts of questions -- that's why I didn't give you a simple answer to your previous question.

I will answer generically that in the end I'm a big, big believer in individual responsibility, be regarding religion or guns.

    >im sorry you suffered because of your parents' choices...

I appreciate that Rat, I really do. I learned long ago that once you reach a certain age you get to climb your own mountain and make your own world. I've done that.

Sadly, many people are more susceptible to that sort of brainwashing that I was. I was very lucky.

  6. How can you compare the two? By your logic ratboy, you are saying religious cults and guns are not to blame, but the people who practice in that religious cult are to be blamed for wrong doing, and the people who shoot that gun are to be blamed for deaths. So this would make guns and religious cults only bad if people partake in them?
So you cannot compare these two becasue a religious cult has one purpose, that is to control and brainwash people for the benefit of a few...
Guns can be used for good or bad, they can protect someone from being robbed, or they can be used to rob someone.
    You cannnot compare these two.

Since I consider "God and Christ" to be man made constructs, I think you'll understand why I answered the way I did. I don't differentiate between the two.

  9. This is the problem. According to the god of FDLS a man shall have many wives, and a women (child of 14,15 many times) should not resist, for her compliance and complete submissiveness to her husband will keep her from punishment of god. Oh, and she is only to have one husband according to god.

  10. You must see that god has always been used by many different religions to control a group of people. And sometimes the outcome is good, but many times it is disasterous.
