A 33-year-old Colorado Springs woman has been questioned about a telephone call that sparked a raid at the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints compound in western Texas two weeks ago. Rozita Swinton was arrested at her home Wednesday night by Colorado Springs police for an incident that occurred in February. Members of the Texas Rangers were also in Colorado Springs as part of their investigation.

"The Texas Rangers were in Colorado Springs (Wednesday) as part of their investigation involving the compound in Texas. They left and have not filed any charges on Rozita Swinton as of this time," said Colorado Springs police spokesman Lt. Skip Arms. Colorado Springs police said the arrest warrant has been sealed and refused to release any other details, reported Deseret News. Swinton posted $20,000 bail at the El Paso County Jail and was released.

"She does have some history with Colorado Springs Police of making prior false calls to police," Arms told KRDO Radio in Colorado Springs. According to KDRO, Swinton's arrest was for a false call to police in February. A young girl named "Jenifer" claimed she was being held hostage in a basement, causing Colorado Springs police to spend most of the day searching more than a dozen homes. KUSA-TV, Denver, reported Swinton was arrested in Castle Rock, Colo., two years ago for making a false report.

Texas authorities launched their raid on the compound after receiving a warrant based on a phone call from a girl named "Sarah" who called for help, claiming she was pregnant and living inside the compound with her 49-year-old abusive husband.

Flora Jessop, an outspoken ex-member of the FLDS group, told KUSA-TV she believes Swinton may have been the person she spoke with by phone, who claimed to be Sarah's twin sister. She said the woman she believes is Rozita Swinton called again Thursday morning after Swinton bailed out of the El Paso County Jail. "I did get her to admit to me her name was Rose," Jessop said.

Texas lawmakers have defended the removal of 416 children from the polygamous sect's ranch and the separation of older children from their mothers. "I'm so proud of our state for acting in the manner it has acted," said state Rep. Drew Darby, of San Angelo, earlier this week. Texas' motto, he said, ought to be changed to "Don't mess with the children of Texas."

  2. On September 13, 2001, WND published a commentary by Anthony C. LoBaido regarding the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington two days earlier. In his column, LoBaido outlined what he regarded as the moral depravity of America in general and New York in particular, asking whether "God (has) raised up Shiite Islam as a sword against America".

In 2004, WND published a commentary by James Sanders entitled "The Downing of United Airlines Flight 93"[24] which proposed that, to defend Washington D.C., Flight 93 had been intercepted and shot with a missile by a military aircraft. It also alleged that the government had tried to cover up this information.

WorldNetDaily published an editorial[39] in December 2006 written by Jim Rutz of "Megashift Ministries" where he claimed that eating soy at a young age increases the chance that a child will be gay

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Texas Rangers on Friday traveled to the Colorado Springs because of a local woman's possible connection to an investigation of a Texas polygamist compound, police said.

Lt. Skip Arms said 33-year-old Rozita Swinton was arrested in Colorado Springs Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of false reporting to authorities. The incident occurred in February.

Arms sids the Texas Rangers notified officials in Colorado Springs they were coming to the city as part of an investigation into the polygamist sect and into Swinton.

(CNN) -- The investigation into alleged abuse at a polygamist ranch in Texas has shifted to Colorado, where police said Thursday that they have arrested a woman for making a false report to police.

Some of the FLDS women who spoke with CNN on Monday said they believe the calls to police were a hoax.

Investigators with the Texas Rangers traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado this week "as part of their investigation involving the compound in Texas," the Colorado Springs Police Department said in a statement.

The reason for their visit was not immediately clear.

The Colorado Springs police statement said its officers charged 33-year-old Rozita Swinton with false reporting to authorities, a misdemeanor. The charge relates to an incident in Colorado Springs in February, but documents related to the case have been sealed "so details of that case cannot be discussed," the Colorado Springs police statement said.

The Texas Rangers "have not filed any charges on Rozita Swinton as of this time," the statement said.

  5. So it really was a bad idea that the men wanted to turn themselves in? The government arrived at the compound with great melodrama and heavily armed, expecting a huge battle, yet the government refused an opportunity that would have diffused immediately a still possible future escalation that still could result in a tragic outcome.

Will this drag on for years like many cases? Will the children be separated for YEARS from what could finally turn out to be their innocent parent or parents? How will this child turn out now being raised for years in and out of numerous foster homes?

Were months old children separated from the mothers for fear that the mothers would coach the children on what to say even though unable to speak?

The women are guilty of what? Guilty of being victims of abuse? I have not heard of accusations. The teenage mothers have had their children taken and are guilty of what? Are they not the victims?

Will the pregnant mothers lose their children once born to "protect" them.

The assumption of guilt is the starting point for all new laws now, no 'what if someone is innocent'.

You have to consider the consequences upon the children who were not abused and how all of this is being handled and the long term, lifetime consequences.

There must be a better way to handle cases like this.

  6. It is very important to understand these women and children most likely do not think of themselves as abused...why? Becasue they have been bred and groomed to conform to a lifestyle that had no choice or say over. They know nothing else but what is. That is the crime committed against them

  7. Wow! I guess it’s still too early to know whether Swinton actually made the calls to Texas, which is why I suppose the Texas Rangers haven’t yet made any arrests; but, one has to wonder where that same Texas restraint was when they raided the FLDS ranch in full military regalia, based on what could possibly have been a phony phone call. And, when did they know the calls came from Colorado–before the raid, after the raid? http://messengerandadvocate.wordpre...rs-investigating-call-resulting-in-flds-raid/

  9. All you have to do is, hold the severed head up at eye level. Notice the set of the dead eyes, the sneer of the upper lip, the crook in the nose. Yep, this once living woman was mentally retarded when she blew herself up.

LOOK – Look, see for yourself! ( Shaking severed head at the audience.)

One former FLDS member, Flora Jessop, of Phoenix, who has been an outspoken critic of polygamist practices, says she thinks she may have talked to Swinton on the phone, with Swinton claiming to be Sarah's twin sister. Jessop claims to have hours of tapes of the conversations with Swinton and says they began before the raid on March 30.

Jessop said the caller also talked about alleged abuse at property owned by FLDS members in Colorado City, Arizona. Colorado City is home to a large number of FLDS members.

Jessop says the woman she believes is Rozita Swinton called again Thursday morning after Swinton bailed out of the El Paso County Jail.

"I did get her to admit to me her name was Rose," Jessop said.

The affidavit for the case in Colorado Springs has been sealed, but Jessop says police arrested Swinton for making false calls somewhere in Colorado, claiming to be an abused child.

9NEWS has learned that Swinton was arrested in Castle Rock two years ago for making a false report.
