Frederica Wilson ran for Congress on a vow to change Washington. But her first order of business has nothing to do with health care, education or the usual mix of issues that come up in the early days of a new Congress. Instead, Wilson's first goal is to overturn a rule that blocks her from wearing a hat on the House floor. The freshman Democrat is pressing incoming House Speaker John Boehner to overturn the rule, which dates back to the 1800s, or at least to make an exception for her. But it's unclear whether Boehner -- who, in any event, will likely have plenty of priorities ahead of a rule-change request from a member of the opposition party -- could do anything, shy of a full floor vote, to overturn the House's hat ban.
An aside: we wondered if the current hat ban rule would prohibit religious Jews from wearing yarmulke or Muslim women from wearing the hijab or headscarf. Steel, Boehner's spokesman, said in an e-mail: "The rule regarding hats has never been interpreted to apply to religious headcoverings."
Perhaps this is all part of the vast left wing conspiracy. Much more of this and we'll welcome the Chinese takeover of our country.:eek: First thing we need to do is get down to her district and sterilize all the people that voted for this stooge. We cannot allow them to reproduce.
If it makes you feel any better, the left wing conspiracy includes China. There are leftists at work there, too. You might say that the downfall of civilization is at work worldwide, and it's merely a race at this point as to who hits bottom first! And you might put money on the Chinese winning, their left wing movement has borrowed heavily from the decades of experience here, so they are moving forward (backward?) faster than we did!
