Lanza committed his rampage with guns licensed to his mother. There was no way anyone could stop that, other than with an intervention before-the-fact. Even if someone had kept him from entering the building, he would likely have gone somewhere else and done the same, seeing as how he had already killed his mother by then. Not sure arming teachers is a great idea though - since it presumes teachers are going to all be psychologically healthy to begin with. I'd prefer professional armed security in the school handle it.
I think that we can all logically assume that guns are perfectly safe now that we know that the deadliest mass murder in school history was performed with a bomb.
Right. And if those guns had been unable to be bought by her because they were banned - as they should be - then he would not have gotten his hands on them. It is simply too easy for too lethal a weapon to be bought by a psychotic person bent on murdering large numbers of people quickly.
It's important to lock your guns up, but really that's only to prevent children from getting their hands on them. Through what length do you expect a mother to go to prevent her 20 year old son from taking her guns and shooting up a bunch of 6 year olds? I don't care how locked up she kept those guns, the guy was going to find a way to get in.
No one believes that we can be perfectly safe. However, we are practically a third world country when it comes to gun violence.
No it's also to prevent adults from getting their hands on them like family members or criminals who break in your house. And a "responsible" gun owner would keep their firearms in a gun safe with a combination lock.
He lived with his mother and according to an article she took her kids shooting - at least when they were younger. He was getting his hands on those guns. Period.
