Just another day in Chicago

  1. It does get complicated if you want to slice and dice every word and attempt to read minds. I will concede that using a term to identify a sub-group when that term used to be, and still can be used to identify an entire group can be problematic. I'll work on it.
Everyone, or most everyone says that would like less reference to race, especially those that are politically motivated. These very same people will then breakdown the vote by race, gender, class, education, etc., etc. They will breakdown employment figures. They will breakdown everything about us using these labels and categories. Until we get past that I find it highly unlikely that race will not be a major component to the discussions we have. I would suggest a good first step for all of us would be to not label someone a racist simply because they disagree with another's position on some subject or idealogy. The conversation goes downhill rather quickly when that happens. The cynic in me thinks that this is not by accident, especially with regard to the body politic and their media hacks.

It is difficult. And depending on one's upbringing, it can take years. In some cases, it can take a lifetime.

And you are correct that with all the classification and categorization, seeing people for who and what they are rather than looking only at their features or colors is an almost insurmountable challenge. That business and government continuously seek more effective and efficient ways of classifying us, whether for marketing purposes or something more insidious, should not come as a surprise (the logical conclusion of all this is that everyone will become his own demographic). But if we are to jump off this treadmill, it has to be done.

If you're sincere, review your posts from the past week and reword a few of them without regard to race, color, or ethnicity. It's not easy. But it can be enlightening. Of course, if you don't want to, nobody is going to make you do it. But you're one of the very few down here who puts any thought into his posts, so you may just find it interesting.

The one thing that I am not is a racist. Who the fuck appointed you the judge of racism?

Do you even know the definition of "bigot"?
