We are at an impasse. I prefer to listen to the people who have dedicated their lives to understanding viruses, whereas you want to give more weight to the musings of people who got into office because they sold their soul (or never had one) and aligned themselves to Trump. Because it is only between these 2 groups that there exists any meaningful friction.
The experts' decision that "sheltering in place" was necessary was forced because the U.S. lacked sufficient reliable data and the inability to acquire it in real time to allow other options.. Other countries did not have to totally shut down to the extent we did for as long as we will have to because they acted very quickly, in a nationally coordinated way, to shut everything down to prevent a sizable seed population from forming before they had testing ramped up. Then they very quickly ramped up testing, and that allowed much of their economy to be restarted. Without a single exception, that approach required coordination at the national level. The U.S. did not lack the ability for such coordination so much as the Trump Administration actively decided not to coordinate at the national level until it was much too late. In Trump's administration many, for good reason, are afraid they will lose their jobs if the openly express disagreement with the President. Others have been chosen for their positions specifically because they have openly expressed agreement with the President, and some because they made political contributions to the President's campaign. When the President makes a bad decision, which is quite often, there are far too few in his administration willing to tell him so. I does not take a rocket scientist to understand what has happened in the United States with regard to the Covid Pandemic and why.
once again the socialist bulllshitters who crave centralized power over our lives present us with the myth of the great centralized govt They make up bullshit about testing and tracing working and then have the WHO tell herd immunity and immunity passport are unlikely to work because antibodies might now make us immune. Its just straight leftist bullhshit all the time everytime. If you believe testing and tracing works... then tell us why we should be locking down low risk groups? For tracing to be useful in a big city with a virus that can hide for 14 days... the R0 would have to be very low otherwise those infected would overwhelm the tracers. so... What is the effective R0 that would allow cities to reliably test and trace in an dense urban area like new york or l.a. in short... 1. the effective R0 2. the amount of the population infected 3. percent of at risk people who were infected 4. percentage of at risk people on the population and many other variables would have to be reliably ascertained before you could tell us testing and tracing worked. Finally it could just be coincidence... that testing and tracing began to work after sufficient amounts of the population had been infected.
Maybe same as used in Taiwan? Ya'think. Naw, that would never work in New York. Taiwan is rural like North Dakota -- very low population density in Taiwan!!! Or maybe like in Hamburg? Naw too rural to compare with N.Y. Oh, maybe Seoul S. Korea, that's at least 1/100 the size of N.Y., would that count? jem, you're such a genius! There used to be another genius posting here. I think his name was TrueJustice (or something like that). You remind me of him. You're every bit as smart, bless your heart. I wish the world was filled with people keeping a watchful eye on the leftist Deep State such as yourself and Billy Barr. We'd be so much better off.
I don't place bowling alleys high on the list of first things to open with respect to jobs and economy such as Malls, department stores, restaurants etc.. But good for you if you just gots to bowl baby!
See your bullshit response there.. Not one useful or substantive response about R0 or effective R0 or how many in the community already had covid or anything useful. Not even close to an attempt to explain why testing and tracing could make a meaningful difference given the fact we are told the virus can hide infectious people for weeks... people who don't even know they have it. Just shameful lack of rigor or thought exhibited by the one post deep soros loving lefty.
so I did a little research since I was suspicious Piezoe mentioned no specifics... no I am not expert and maybe things have changed but this is what I found after reading 3 articles... 1. its seems Taiwan shutdown travel to and from covid zones... quickly (the left and piezoe hated Trump for doing just a little of that.) 2. and kept schools and business open for low risk groups... (the left hates those of us calling to open up... or provide numbers supporting shutdown of low risk groups) 3. and was very transparent about its numbers... (not our lefties, they are trying to treat us like mushrooms and keep us locked up without any science or data to support the lock down of low risk groups. ) 4. the did other things well like social distancing and masks.... The exact stuff many us have been calling for and many of the lefties are against. (except for #4 which is common sense if enforced reasonably) https://fee.org/articles/why-taiwan-hasnt-shut-down-its-economy/
The most humorous thing of all about your post was that you were totally oblivious to all the places that have already demonstrated what is achievable with wide spread testing and tracing. But keep an eye out for the Deep State will'ya. We don't want to fall victim to some commie Soros plot. Forget about the Covid, jem. Between the Deep State and the commie Fed you're done for.
you are so densely left its not even funny. you brought up Taiwan and it supported my arguments.... that would be funny but it shows how full of shit your are with your Myth of the great lefty govt. Testing and tracing is not the reason for their success. its because they kept the virus out and shutdown their island to travel from Covid hotspots. Or, its proof the R0 among healthly low risk groups is effectively much lower than the WHO says. hence there is no reason for the shutdown of low risk groups... just have them take precautions. Testing and tracing can be useful when few people have the virus or when the R0 is relatively low.
Taiwan was in a leadership position from the beginning because they are not a member of the UN or the WHO. The UN's "one china" position means that the People's Republic Represents Taiwan for Taiwan as though it were a state rather than a country. Consequently Taiwan has had to fend for itself and was monitoring developments in Wuhan all while China was covering them up and pressuring WHO to explain why they were not sending out alarms and issuing advisories. They have gotten burned by the UN and the WHO everyday for years and have learned to navigate the phony set-up and propaganda coming out of China. Versus the rest of the world that is still having big debates about whether China is screwing the world over. That is a settled issue for them. In this instance, they benefited bigly from having had to go it alone for years. The United States and other countries should reward Taiwan by forcing the UN to accept Taiwan as a member state. Yes, China has veto power. Well then, we will defund more than just the WHO then. I would not let those motherfuckers go unpunished. China has restructured the world from their virus whether the rest of the world wanted it or not. I would restructure their arse in regard to our trade with them and reliance on them and I would restructure their clout in the UN bigtime, or pull out of the UN.
