Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by mBear, Jan 8, 2004.

  1. What we really need is someone to compare Velocity to someone
that has used Velocity and IB/NinjaTrader or IB/Buttontrader to
really find out who the winner is... or FuturesTrader or Bracket
Trader or AutoTrader or any of the other ones out there...

  2. Up to what value is acount insured in Velocity?
    Is my money insured?
No. There isn’t any insurance in the Futures Industry as there is in the Banking or Securities Industry.

But, Velocity Futures, L.P. is a registered United States Futures Commission Merchant ("FCM") with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission ("CFTC") and is also a member of the National Futures Association ("NFA"). Velocity Futures, L.P. is operated by it's general partner Velocity Management I, L.L.C.

Due to the strict daily financial reporting requirements, substantial net capital requirements to hold customer funds on deposit, and the vigorous audits performed by the NFA, your funds on deposit with a United States FCM are well protected.

how reliable is the ib data feed to a charting platform like sierra charts or medved charts? i am factoring that into my decison of brokers. (as compared to the $120 esignal fee to chart the mini's)

I think these features are available also with button trader, a high level frontend for TWS. Because TWS only gives a percentage of the full volume it won't be as accurate as X-trader, but I think it gives a close approximation. The speed of X-trader is as far as I know the fastest available.

Hey how cheap, do u want IB to go. There prices are the one of the best in the business. Hey my only problem with IB is that there reliability has gone down lately. TWS may have a lot of nice features, but if you want a full featured broker you have to go somewhere else or use esignal. If they were to do a major upgrade to TWS and improve there system stability i dont think anyone could compete with them and there offerings.

Well, I stopped by my computer to see where the market was - I used to trade at night a lot more. I looked at the time and realized IB was down!

VF is open 24x5-1/2 and X_Trader is available with trade desk telephone support!

I can't tell you how many times I was locked out of the market while IB was down - and it did cost me money. (I live on the West Coast.)

Also, while an IB rep claimed (in the on-line chat help) that while TWS is down simulated stops are still executed because IB servers are still connected to Globex, it isn't true. I know because my stop & stop-limit in a OCA group in currencies did not execute while the IB TWS interface was down.

As some ET traders know, Mark Oryhon is a self confessed "trade junkie" and knows what traders are looking for in a broker.

Great to know this went smoothly as I for one am contemplating moving a chunk of money to Velocity. As yet I've not seen anyone from Europe comment on their use of X-trader etc. Anyone out there happier with VF than IB?

It was really obviuos by that time.
I thank you for having brought this to the attention.
Shows that I do judge things for what they are.

BTW : by the way that IB made my contract , here in Europe the cxost for closing a position via Telecom was 100$.
After the note of another partecipant to the community that was saiyng was 30$ , I checked with IB CS and it is actually NOW equal to 30$ .

By PM request, I am posting screen shots of market depth trader.

I copied these screens during the President's speech.

This image shows an up tick as he started talking.
