I have no idea what you are talking about. How do you believe a person when they claim they were raped but not accuse the person they are saying raped them??

This sounds like you are talking in circles.

What else do you do with an allegation that’s 20 years old? You’re not getting any evidence to corroborate but does that make the accuser a liar if we can’t convict the alleged rapist? I don’t think so.

Why can’t we say I believe Joni Ernst even though there is no way to prove her allegation is true?

What else do you do? You investigate it. You name the person and you bring evidence out into the light to discuss. If you don't want to provide any details, then you can't be upset when logical, fact based folks go "ok, well, sorry about all that but there isn't anything we can do."

Are you saying Joni Ernst can’t be believed?

First let me ask --- is she making any claim about the name of the individual who raped her and where/when it happened specifically.

If she starts asserting details then we can make some type of judgement if she is telling the truth or not.

Most situations (90% plus according to some surveys) in college are "date rape" involving someone the woman knows. Some of these cases turn out to be true, some turn out out to be false allegations after the guy dates someone else, etc. Many (if not most) of the incidents involve alcohol. Nearly all are classic he said / she said situations regarding if there was consent.

What I've said now numerous times is that when you claim a crime has been committed against you, you have to offer evidence for that crime to be investigated. Then, once evidence is presented, opinions can begun to be formed.

I get that you are trying some CNN horseshit questioning tactic designed to catch me in some logic error, but it's not going to happen.

I've stated my position. If you cannot grasp it, that's not my fault.

No. I’m not. I’m legitimately saying why can’t we separate the crime from the victim and just believe the victim?

Also, does the whole Kavanaugh episode make it harder to believe a victim?

Also, I understand your position and whether you like it or not you are saying we can’t believe the victim without evidence or a guilty verdict because the two cannot be separated in your mind.

Remember I am not taking about pursuing any criminal charges, only societal perspectives.

  10. I question the therapeutic value of this sort of public announcement. It looks like a pathetic attempt to garner victim status at the expense of someone who can't defend themselves. We are expected to unquestionably believe her version of something that wasn't serious enough to involve the police then. Now that she is a Senator, by golly, she is ready to make that sonofbitch pay. If I were one of her constituents, I'm afraid I would be having second thoughts about voting for her. She sounds a bit unstable and clearly is not focused on the important stuff going down.
