Yes, and they're such heroes for doing so, aren't they? It's fascinating how you can just overlook that little gem, essentially taking it in stride as you endeavor to make another seemingly more important point. Really? And have you reviewed any of your own posts lately? They're a treasure trove of depth, perception and objectivity?
Can you go back in our history to see how/when this trend started? Imagine during WWII, American corporations exporting jobs to make more money for themselves...at the expense of Americans...during a time of war. Just when did patriotism morph into making money with no personal sacrifice to the country and done at any cost to America's present and future as being the highest virtue? For that brief moment following 9/11, the majority of Americans put aside their petty partisan thinking and understood that we had a common problem. How was the problem dealt with? By cutting revenues and increasing spending, by making self sacrifice for the good of the country only the job of the all volunteer army, etc? The Iraq and Afghanistan war profiteering were/are unbridled. The madness of increasing spending and cutting revenues is not a new phenomena. Go back to when this economic insanity began. Why is it that people don't understand that Red China is still Red...is it because they get to buy cheap shit at Wal Mart? American pride? American pride in country is gone, only lip service remains...wearing a flag pin, and cheating on taxes, exporting jobs, partisan distractions and blaming... People are proud of their wealth...and this is a supposedly a Christian country? Jesus Christ would be happy with his followers worshiping the almighty dollar? Anyone who is willing to put their reasoned mind first can see that America is precisely where we are because of both ideologies, left and right. Corruption and greed became a celebrated virtue during the Reagan years, with Gordon Gecko becoming the new American idol. The tragic truth is that we have common problems as Americans...yet we treat them as if the problems are the fault only of the party in power...completely abdicating personal responsibility and true patriotism and love of country in the process. This from someone who was one of the loudest critics of Obama during his run for the presidency. However, Obama is not the only one to blame...not until the American people take full responsibility for their duly elected representatives will we begin to get qualified responsible leadership. ...and no, Reagan was not the solution. Anyone who looks deeply into the facts can see that the real beginning of the current decline came with the entrance of Reagan, following the ineptitude of Carter... Best time in America? Post WWII, when America had a strong balance between corporations and labor unions, between government and private enterprise. It is always the balance of power, either in the political or economic environment that brings the greatest advance of America as a whole...
Ask Hank Paulson. It was his favorite country to visit as head of GS and Treasury Sec. However, Obama is not the only one to blame...not until the American people take full responsibility for their duly elected representatives will we begin to get qualified responsible leadership.
Money and air-time decide who your choices are, not the voter. Post WWII, when America had a strong balance between corporations and labor unions, between government and private enterprise.
Shipping jobs overseas, NAFTA, etc are all union-busters, and successful ones too. Government jobs are very well-paid (overpaid?) compared to private jobs, but another question is - why is that? Is it because private industry jobs can get away with paying you shit? That half of the problem isn't talked about often. It is always the balance of power, either in the political or economic environment that brings the greatest advance of America as a whole...
Then the question is: who has the power now - and how's that working out for most people?
i didn't overlook anything. i simply pointed out that stewart is off the mark on this one. it's you who is foaming at the mouth over the republican decision to not vote on anything until the tax cuts are passed. petty behavior, i agree (regarding the politicians) but expected after the democrats touted their majority by excluding the republicans from just about every important vote throughout the last two years.
+1 America is a modern day North Korea, does stupid shit that affects the whole planet... they need to be watched all the time
You don't recall that little nugget about the Republicans essentially thwarting Obama at every turn, and not being prepared to compromise in any way? How exactly was Obama to include the very people whose sole objective was to see him fail? And yet he tried to go the bipartisan route, even though his was the only hand extended across the aisle. Even now, in Boehner's latest interview on 60 Minutes, he steadfastly refused to use or accept the word "compromise." Where's the bipartisan in that?
"President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning - but he also left no doubt about who's in charge of these negotiations. "I won," Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation."
Perhaps the Republicans' not budging, with the intent of seeing him fail, may have had something to do with that remark.
