Weren't those the same more or less rules that Native Americans were living by as they related to each other? Or do you think this was a happy and peaceful continent before Europeans arrived? Look at the history of tribes like the Sioux and Komanchi and the Hurons... not to mention Mexico and the Carribbean, the Inca empire etc. I'm not condoning what people did but it was a "you live by the sword and you die by the sword" kind of world back then, still is to a great extent, unfortunately. At any rate, it's tough to apply 21st century morality to a "16th century civilization meets 5th millennium BC civilization" type of situation.
