Ah, Yes, Watertown, NY In The 50s

I remember walking to the store with my mother and the snow that people had piled up on the sidewalk was sometimes 10-20 ft high.

During the summer, the place was full of flies and moskitoes because of the river nearby and the dairy farms in the area.

And for some reason, I have the happiest memories from there: diving with my sister in the huge piles of dry leaves in the fall, arguing with my brother that he shouldn't put rocks inside his snow balls at school, overhearing my father saying that no way he was going to shovel the driveway, my mother better call a service...

    :) :) :)

  4. So my Dad called this "service", and this broad came out, all dolled up, huge cans, cfm shoes( PM me Don, I'll tell you what they are), and she says to Pop, for 25 bucks ( this is the fifties, remember,) I'll do anything, I mean ANYTHING you want."

So the old man, no slouch himself, hands her a snow shovel.

  9. my mother just told me in 51 or 52 my dad made 29 bucks a week. That's an amazing stat. They had envelopes where every week they put the dough in. You've got a couple years on me, but I'm sure you remember.

and in 56, btw, we got a second car. Amazing how wel we lived with a little bit.

These came out pretty good. I feel like Carson... "it was sooooooooooooooooooooo cold................................
