How will the verdict affect the direction of the market?/ The jury deliberating the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard reached a verdict on Wednesday after six weeks of trial testimony and less than three days of deliberation — but didn't fill out the form establishing the damages. Judge Penney Azcarate, who is overseeing the case, sent the jurors back into the deliberation room to properly fill out the jury form, including damages. She did not announce which party the jurors found liable in the case. "I'm going to give the forms back to you," Azcarate told jurors Wednesday afternoon. When you find for defamatory statement, one or more, you need to fill out the compensatory damages." She said the damages must be "at least $1 and up to whatever you feel the damages should be."
In favor of Johnny Depp: $10 million compensatory. $5 million punitive. In favor of Ms Heard: $2 million compensatory $0 punitive
Both have made statements; Heard on Twitter, Depp on Instagram. Heard has turned off replies on Twitter. Headlines already twisting the results for Heard. The $2 mill in her favor was in regards a lawyer, or former lawyer making public statements about how Heard decieved police in regards one of the alleged incedents of DV. Probably one juror who wanted that. The lawyer was probably right in his assessment of that situation. They pinned that on Depp regardless quite a bit of bodycam footage.
Sounds like the State of Virginia will only allow, by statute, $350,000 of the $5 million punitive the jury levied against Heard. But that may not be as easily dischargeable in bankruptcy. It took the jury ten minutes to come up with those figures. Probably not well deliberated, possibly negotiated. The jury has to be unanimous.
Zdreg, I am surprised that is even a question from you. Why the hell would it affect the global economy, which is represented by the stock market? lol! Now if it was Vladimir Putin v. Amber Heard , that would make more sense.
