After googling it, his fortune dwindled to 4 million or so at the time of his death. His widow is broke now. So the answer is that even if it was lost, the number is quite insignificant. "What happened to John McAfee's $100-million fortune? Although John was worth more than $100 million after he resigned from antivirus company McAfee in 1994 and sold his stock, his official fortune had dwindled to an estimated $4 million at the time of his death, according to Celebrity Net Worth." "He claimed in 2019 that he had no money and could not pay a $25-million court order over a wrongful death lawsuit. However, he was arrested the following year on U.S. charges of tax evasion, with authorities claiming he and his team had earned $11 million promoting cryptocurrencies. From prison, he told his 1 million Twitter followers he doesn’t have any hidden crypto. “I have nothing. But I regret nothing.”"
I cant see him not having a stash, particularly as a part of his bug out strategy. His crypto wealth would have doubled since his 2021 death.
If I remember correctly, the filmmaker was a friend of one of his former researchers. The researcher thinks that John drugged and assaulted her while unconscious one night so the filmmaker made the movie as a hit piece. I’m not saying that he definitely didn’t do it but no actual evidence was offered.
I suspect that his balance sheet didn’t include crypto and the crypto wasn’t linked to him. So it could absolutely still exist. His broke wife had confessed to working with people to try to kill him so it’s plausible that he didn’t feel an obligation to leave her anything. He’s either still alive or the crypto is lost forever in my opinion.
