Actually, what the Fl Supreme court did was actually rewrite stat of florida law,...the state law called for the recount and all other matters to be resolved by a certain drop dead date , i think it was december 16th?....they decided that even though Florida law says winner will be declared by that date, they decided to rewrite the law and ordered continued re counts AND did not allow certification as law required
13 reasons why bush wants to go to Mars! 13. Mars reminds him of Texas, only without all those pesky Mexicans. 12. Saw Mars Attacks on HBO three years ago and never got over it. 11. The voices in his head told him bad things would happen if he didn't. Very bad things. 10. Thinks Osama bin Laden might be hiding out there with Saddam's Weapons of Mass Destruction. 9. Crazy new weapons being developed by the Pentagon are way too dangerous to test here on Earth. 8. Non-existant industry regulation and the solar system's lowest wages make Mars the ideal place to relocate America's few remaining manufacturing jobs. 7. There may once have been biological life there, and where there's biological life, there's oil! 6. Always on the lookout for new ways to put your money into Halliburton's pockets. 5. Wants to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Martian people. 4. When Mars passed so close to the Earth last summer, it looked at us funny. 3. "Them Mars bars sure is tasty!" 2. This is merely an extension of Bill Clinton's Mars policy. To suggest that Bush's approach to Mars deviates in any substantial way from that of his predecessor is preposterous, if not treasonous. 1. He doesn't. This is all just an election year ploy, a diversionary tactic on which he has zero intention of following through.
Arnie and TM, Right you both are. It's a shame really that the Florida law has been seen as the problem, because it seemed pretty well thought-out to me. The problem was no one could foresee just how craven the Florida Supreme Court would be. It is becoming increasingly clear that the greatest threat to our liberties and democratic form of government comes from the judicial branches, both state and federal. At some point either the President or the Congress is going to have to say enough and stand up to these budding tyrants in robes.
The subject of the thread is John Edwards. To this end, to see which the better candidate is I urge John Kerry to debate John Edwards (with other candidates either included or excluded) in as many locations as possible before Super Tuesday. The Edwards camp openly welcomes these debates vital to the american people. I urge Kerry supporters to ask your candidate to accept the debates.
A free people make their own laws. We are rapidly coming to a situation where the judiciary imposes its laws on us and we either obey them or face the consequences. Take the example of Judge Roy Moore, who had the temerity to display the basis for our legal system in his courtroom.
If you want a Democrat to win, better go with Edwards. If you want a Republican to win, hope the Dems choose Kerry. Forget the polls, the game is early yet. Remember what happened to Dean. In addition to some underhanded activities by his fellow democrats, Dean peaked to early. Being way out front this early in the game is hard to maintain. Once the numbers begin to lag (which they will), its hard to rebound. Conversely, numbers that constantly rise gives the undecided something to think about. Folks in this Forum SHOULD be capitalists. Not the corrupt kind that we see so prevalent, but a true capitalist. And as such, they should be running scared from Kerry. He isn't just a liberal, he's a Socialist. Sure Bush isn't doing the kind of things we would like to see him do, but if my life depended on having one of these two men in a fox hole with me, I'd rather it be Bush. At least I would know when it was my turn to get a little shut eye, he would shoot the enemy to protect my life. Whether you like the war or not, only an idiot would think a nation as wealthy and privileged as ours could remain free without military superiority. Kerry voted against the very weapons we use today, weapons that have saved our boys' lives. Bad intelligence reporting? Kerry voted to hamstring the CIA. Kerry has PTSD. Ever live with someone that suffers from that? The White House is the last place he should be. And last but not least, after so many years in the Senate, there is so much that can be used against him he doesn't stand a chance. The Republicans started about 10 yrs ago playing the game the way Democrats always have, this could get ugly.
