I heard Ubuntu with Wine running kicks ass as it has an extremely light footprint. I'm very glad that Linux is becoming more mainstream with many more compatible drivers and apps now, too. Getting away from the closed-source Microsoft establishment for PC apps is the best thing to happen to computing in a long, long time. By the way, Firefox (backed heavily by Google) now has 19% of the browser market and that percentage is growing at a more rapid clip than ever before. Up next: Cloud computing. Another area that Microsoft will lose out to Google on...
What's good about TWS is it is open standard based and literally OS independent (built on Java and uses TCP/IP to communicate with other s/w), so it does it so seamlessly that you will never feel the difference with running the same combo under Windows. I wish every broker would adhere to the same policy in building their trading platforms. This is IMO very right and a sign of respect to clients - allows them to choose the OS they like. P. S. A few years ago Linux and modern distributions are very big difference. What I wrote about my Ubuntu experience is all "as is" - when describing it I tried to refrain from any subjective estimations.
I'm NOT a fan of Vista! The last set up I bought I had to EXPLICITLY tell them I wanted XP Pro, and paid extra for it...
Hi there, I am about to replace my dell computer which I bought in 2005 which had windows xp but am nervous about getting a new pc with vista on it , I run heavy software formula calculations in realtime and am worried that vista will take away alot of the power . Can you buy a computer and ask for a xp operating system from someone like dell that lets you customize your computer ?
Is it? Here are desktop OS stats survey by querying Web browser platforms, from the beginning of 2008: I am hearing 'Linux is taking over' since around 10 years now (probably since the Redhat IPO). Nothing has changed. Linux has never been a desktop platform, and most likely will never be.
Most people are too dumb to learn how to use it. Otherwise, Linux is levels above anything Microsoft puts out.
Windows is so popular due to policy of pre-installing Windows on new computers... But as more people get familiar and more educated about computers they use, more will also look at alternatives... At least I hear more and more people trying Linux... It wasn't so just a year ago yet, but it is now...
Thanks Gnome, Just spoke to dell I will be upgrading using there business models and they are aware of the vista issues they charge you a $99.00 fee to downgrade to xp pro ...
