It’s hard to understate how poor Trump’s Iran policy is going

Ohh good so that’s your plan. Take out all nuclear facilities IN Iran, give missiles to Israel and everything will be peaceful as a monk. Golly gee, why hasn’t anyone else thought of that?

Actually any plan needs to include the an increasing set of measures:
    • Warn Iran that its proxy wars, nuclear program, and kidnapping of people world-wide is not acceptable. Demand the release of prisoners. Inform them the next step is military action. Hold out an alternative of eliminating sanctions, etc. if they fully cooperate.
    • Increase sanctions on Iran. Arrest their agents in foreign nations. Send force to the Persian Gulf. Take military action against Iranian proxy forces in the region. Hold out an alternative of eliminating sanctions, etc. if they start to fully cooperate.
    • Warn again. Then take military action directly against Iran. Start with taking out Iran's entire navy, port facilities, air force, and air force bases, and missile sites. Inform Iran if they launch missiles then the strikes will escalate. Publicly inform Iran if they use any type of nuclear device the we will start using nuclear devices.
    • Escalate military action - take out all nuclear facilities. Take out government buildings.
    • Warn again. Then take out all civilian airports, oil infrastructure, ports, communications, and electrical generation facilities.
Don't invade Iran with ground troops. The intent is to leave the country a stone age wreck that is incapable of taking aggressive action in the region -- not to repeat the mistakes of the past in occupying and re-building the nation. We are under no obligation to re-build an aggressive nation after eliminating their capabilities to threaten the region.

    And add
More treaties between Arab states and Israel to isolate Iran
    Absolute embargo
    immediate response for terrorism
I think a couple more years of the Trump pressure could have flipped the leadership

@gwb-trading a d @Mercor got the Iran situation all figured out. Too bad no one else has considered brute force. It’s all so easy apparently.

FYI: Iran ain’t no babe in the woods. They’re sophisticated enough that even the Trump administration didn’t answer them bombing our facilities in Iraq.

You two fail to respect your enemies and that’s the sort of thing that’s leads to huge loses.

Obviously a policy of appeasement does not work. Obama's appeasement policy simply emboldened Iran to be more aggressive.... and even funded their aggression. Ask Great Britain how well a policy of appeasement worked before WW2 -- same situation here.

Biden will shortly find out the time for negotiations is over. Either he needs to forcibly address Iran's aggression or withdraw completely from the Middle East (which is not really an option).

You mean the history of Iran engaging in proxy wars across the region funded with cash the Obama administration gave them as an appeasement.

No, I mean the history of denuclearization going swimmingly until Trump fucked it all up and Iran had to go back to their old ways.

I will agree that Trump failed to address the Iran situation properly as well. He dropped the very poor agreement put in place by Obama but Trump failed to have a consistent policy which addressed Iran's continual aggression in the region and kidnappings across the face of the earth.

It is questionable if the Obama "denuclearization" agreement did much beyond allowing Iran to hide their program. Certainly when Trump dropped the agreement Iran openly moved to accelerate their nuclear program and stopped trying to hide it.

The real problem is Iran's proxy wars and aggression across the region which Obama failed to address in any manner except for funding it further. Shortly Biden will have no choice except to address the situation head-on --- which will likely require military strikes unless Iran quickly acquiesces. Obviously the time of appeasement is over.

The real victims here are the people of Iran... many yearn for freedom from the oppression imposed by the religious dictatorial Ayatollahs. There have been protests in the past but they were put down with force by the Revolutionary Guard and other agents of the Iranian government.
