Sorry hadn't read the Bing Copilot explanation.

Riot's farm is pretty sophisticated and silent. Perhaps all Bitcoin miners should be held to the same standards. Finding home miners should be easy just by tracking electricity consumption.

Maybe there's a business opportunity for middle men to provide a modern farm and rent out space to home miners?

You also have to get approval to put satellites in orbit. I doubt that gov would ever let that happen.

Another thing I’ve wondered about is what will happen to all of the specialized mining rigs as they become obsolete and as mining becomes less attractive because of the reduced rewards. That’s a lot of wasted hardware. Is there any other use for the rigs outside of mining crypto?

It just sounds to me like someone hates crypto, and they are just trying to make a false claim on it when in reality it really doesn't affect them at all. But the fact they are helping the Bitcoin infastructure, means that they are all of the sudden annoyed by the noise being producded. Therefore, they must take action against this annoying nonsense and file a complaint about it.

If it was an american dollar printing machine they would probably be dancing to it.

It just goes to show you how unreasonably unjustifiable people's minds work

I doubt it. The people complaining probably don’t know anything about crypto. I’ve known people who live in the middle of nowhere and some of the things they appreciate the most are the view, noiseless nights, and no city smells. I’ve seen wind farms and large feedlots protested and sometimes blocked. I was once told about a tiny town (<500 people) that demanded that a new factory in the area buy all of their houses because the noise it produced made it difficult to sleep. The factory did something with wood and had several large drying kilns with large noisy fans that ran 24/7. The factory complied and brought many of the homes, all of the ones within a couple blocks of the kilns. They probably needed the extra space for future expansion anyway. I don’t know details about the TX mining situation, if it’s really in the middle of nowhere in farm/ranch country they’re likely dealing with people who have established their whole life on their farm and don’t want to move. They probably didn’t know to speak up until the mine was operational and making noise.

something just crossed my mind while writing this. Why don’t they utilize abandoned underground mines for these bitcoin mining operations? I’ve seen limestone mines converted to cold storage warehouses because of the low temperatures they offer. It could drop the power requirements for cooling substantially and the sound would probably be completely contained and not bother any neighbors.

That's a good idea. I don't know how hot it would get being in an enclosed area though.

The liquid submerged cooling is a great way to go, and minimizes noise, power, and fire hazzards. You can even take the fans off the miners since they are completely useless in a submerged set up.

Do you have to cool the liquid?

I'm not sure, I think the liquid does get warm, you probably do need to somehow cool the liquid and recirculate it.

Of course, you have to cool the liquid.

You have to use the fan (see posts #2, and #3) to cool it.
The power needed wouldn't be so high.
