Iterative Refinement

Discussion in 'Journals' started by Spydertrader, Jan 3, 2008.

  1. Correct. The difficulty here resides in the fact that you have a Doji involved in this sequence (or, as Jack calls them, Neutral Bars). Not only that, but the close of this bar sits at the exact same position as the previous bar. Clearly, a subtle difference than what one sees regularly with respect to bar to bar Price Movement.

  2. Thank you for your help.
There's some very elegant logic exists, my gut tells me, that ties everything together (signals, resolution, 'what wasn't that', etc) which escapes me for a moment. Nothing that some additional practice can't help.:D

    Have a good evening.

  3. Read my recent posts again, carefully. I have been talking all along about traverse level trading.

You must trade the middle fractal of whichever triplet you are monitoring. By trading the middle you are also trading the outer. (Leave tapes to Jack et al for now.)

If you were trading the channel level, and you enter between P1 and P2 you then sit through the P2-P3 retrace and are upside down or losing profits at best (10 points!!) and are plainly on the wrong side of the middle (traverse) fractal. OK this is your choice. BUT to trade the Channel fractal, logically you should only enter at P3 of the Channel. It is undefined before P3 (although you know it is coming). 3 points define a channel, not 1 or 2.

Jack approved of my snippet. Note also he wasn't too hot on 3 bar comparisons.

Come on guys - please think critically.

    Aw Man! :)

Is the correct bar coloring schema red for that bar though? (I assume so since you mention making a mental translation)

Thanks for fleshing it out Romanus and Spyder.

Well at this point in time my critical thinking skills are telling me that you are debating something which was settled several pages back. A correct answer to your question was provided.

What exactly would you like us to think critically about?

  6. I encourage you to do the same .....

Does the above sound like someone trading on the ES Traverse Level or at a much faster fractal than currently under discussion?

With respect to not being hot on three bar comparisions, who do you think defined Peak Volume?

Again, if you trade on a fractal which includes other data outside of the 5 minute ES Traverse, then no problem, as it does not mean you didn't 'see' change.

However, Peak Volume does not mean the Highest Volume Bar of the day. Peak Volume is relative to current Pace.

If you 'see' change within a bar (especally in this instance) when no signal for change exists on the current fractal, then what you 'see' represents change on another - the YM, or STr-Squ, or DOM or Tic Chart. In other words, you've developed the ability to 'see' the changesacross multiple fractals all within an ES bar.

    Nicely done.

  7. Back when a few of us coded up the Bar Coloration Rules, we wanted to color Doji bars (that opened and closed the same as the previous bar close) the same color as the previous bar. We wanted to color the bars in such a fashion in order to make it easier to see the lack of change which occurs in these occassonal scenarios. Unfortunately, software limitations (at the time) prevented implementation of this rule set. A review of several months worth of these examples indicate no false positive scenarios (meaning, the color code changes failed to alter the bar color under the original rules where appropriate to market direction). What I did notice was the addition of clarity where often a similar example (to the one under discussion) developed.

You'd notice these examples when Volume appears to head to decreasing black with a few bars mixed in on dereasing red (of course the opposite colors also apply in an opposite trend)

To answer your question, I still have a bit of research to do in order to determine if 'seeing' the differences reach threshold or not.

I plan to update the code if so.

    Cool Thanks!

That is an interesting commentary and was my thinking after reading your comments to Romanus about mentally changing the bar. Of course, I had done no prior analysis.

If you would, please let the community know what your findings are and advise. It is a quick change for my current charting S/W.

P.S. If you need any grunt work assistant in your research, I know just the guy :D

    Have a great evening.

  9. Well this is where I get off the train.

Good journey to all of you.
