I have been slowly building a S&P short over the duration of this rally. At some point something has to break because the systemic problems are just too great to ignore for any extended period of time. Can't wait for today's 2pm rumor du jour that will propel the markets back up to par. Will it be Berlosconi agrees to step down if the government passes a confidence vote on him?
They are the third largest economy in Europe so no the market isn't overreacting. Not when all your numbers are moving in the wrong direction and growth is slowing which will only make them worst. There are a whole host of issues that are causing internal problems with italy and they have been slowly building for some time. There was a very good article in the Economist a few months back that described Italy's systemic problems.

No need to worry, by Friday or next Monday the latest a bailout will happen, even thought they brushed off any thought of it happening because they are just too big to bailout they will have some new way of bailout out Italy, so just continue to buy all dips because as everyone says the santa clause rally will push the SPX back above 1350 on the year....
