Or does he have a law degree and also hold a seat in the Senate?

This is a wise move the mainstream Republicans to reel in the extremists. McCarthy can only gather about 175 votes short of a needed majority with strength. The conservatives can only gather about 40.

The strategy is obvious - Boehner will remain in office as speaker until a new speaker is elected. The conservatives are being told that they need to toe the line and fully support mainstream Republican policy and completely back the new speaker -- otherwise Boehner will stay in the position for many months.

The little revolt from the conservative wing will end shortly, and you will see them religiously kissing the butt of the new speaker.

  3. I doubt it, although stranger things have happened. McCarthy was more a victim of his own poor choice of words about the Benghazi committee than a conservative uprising. His supporters were taken aback by how dumb his comment was.

A real hard core conservative could get elected Speaker but they would need democrat votes. it could happen because the democrats think a conservative would be a disaster for republicans.

All the viable Democratic votes for such a plan plus the 40 votes of the conservative wing comes nowhere close to electing a speaker.

The conservatives are about to get a harsh lesson on who's the boss.

    Here is Step 1....

Breaking: John Boehner has agreed to stay on as Speaker

    thank you...

I have always been a relatively positive and hopeful about the future person... but I could get negative about stuff at times.

However, now that I am old enough to have watched some talented relatives make themselves miserable and some average people make a good life... I am sure that attitude plays a part in happiness. I am concerned that a a child of mine and another member of my family have unreasonably negative outlooks and approaches...(although that one other member has made a dramatic change recently).

so a few months ago when I got a call from my son's golf coach about this issue... I personally decided to be a positive about almost all outcomes and the future as possible, to set an example for my family members.

You do that for a while and you do get a naturally better attitude. Its funny but because of that change... I could not write... " our once great country" I felt compelled to write ... great country.

  7. "The likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed," he told CNN on Thursday.

He was then asked by CNN presenter Wolf Blitzer: "Just clarify, if there had been no gun control laws in Europe at that time, would six million Jews have been slaughtered?"

Mr Carson said he doubted Hitler would have been able to achieve his goals if Germans had been armed at that time.

Mr Carson is polling second in the Republican race behind Donald Trump.

LOL, even the "smart" GOP candidate is an idiot.

Your complete ignorance is on display once again.... I think you need to carefully take a look at the German Gun laws of 1928 and 1938 --- and then review the history of the Brownshirts in Germany who terrorized everyone in Germany who opposed Hitler. Hitler enforced laws (previously unenforced) from the Weimar Republic (1928) taking guns away from law-abiding citizens and passed further laws (1938) to disarm particular groups such as Jews, Social Democrats and Communists. The 1938 laws also further restricted pistols and disallowed bolt military rifles.

After this you should search on Kristallnacht (Nov 1938) and the other abuses suffered by a disarmed population.

Historically the first act by most dictators is to disarm their population.

Well today it appears that we are getting closer to the truth why McCarthy quit... there are claims he's been banging a congresswoman from our state, Renee Ellmers (NC). Despite their denials other congressional representatives have been leaning on McCarthy to quit the race for speaker...

"McCarthy denied earlier this week that his decision to withdraw from the speaker's race was related to a letter from Republican 3rd District Congressman Walter Jones demanding that any candidate with embarrassing misdeeds in his past withdraw."
