In the former case the thug has almost no chance of losing. In the latter case it's at least 25% and maybe even the odds are against him. More importantly, he knows that if he loses, he is going to die or get horribly injured then jailed.

98% of gun incidents pass without a shot being fired, because the crim runs as soon as he sees the business end of a firearm pointed at him.

  2. So you are OK with killing people because they cheat?

Btw, if you are going to use Finland as an example of school shootings. They had 2 in both cases people used guns purchased legally... Hmm........... Guns falling into the hands of madmen. How shocking.

Once again, you fail to ascertain the facts.

The Finland school shooting is a case of law enforcement failing to act preemptively when obtaining clear evidence that this individual had serious emotional and mental issues and had made repeated threats.

    Google it.

In a great many of these cases of gun violence being perpetrated by, as you call them, "madmen" the assailant shouldn't have been sold or allowed to possess the firearms if the law was being enforced.

Aren't you for enforcing the law? You do know they work significantly better when you enforce them, right?

  5. Had those guns not been available period, there would not be those shootings. Madmen will always exist, they don't have to carry guns.

Doh. The majority of serial killers in the US are white because most Americans are white. Care to guess the race of most serial killers in China or Nigeria?

If you look at the stats, the per capita incidence of serial killers is actually *higher* for black Americans than white Americans.

You're just spouting off your own racial prejudices.

    Slippery slope thinking.

Heard about the Japanese guy who went on a stabbing spree killing several people in a matter of minutes? Google it. If there were no knives, those people would be alive today?

    When does it end?

Your logic is senseless and unrealistic.

If law enforcement had done their job, lives would have been saved. As is the case in most of these mass murders using firearms. What's the point of law enforcement if they can't protect the citizens?

If >99% of citizens who lawfully own guns never commit a crime, why should they be punished for the <1% who do? How does that make any sense?

Would you like to be punished (in the form of a ban on alcohol sales) for the few morons who drive drunk?

Hey, WTF? If there was no alcohol, there'd be no drunk driving, period.

  8. Is there less killing in places with gun permission? If people have a gun, someone on the thread said the robber/rapist would run away just from seeing the gun. So is there less death and less violent crime because of having a gun, but not shooting the gun?
My grandfather keeps my brothers BB gun rifle at the door, and then to his room when he sleeps. He said if someone breaks into the house, they will see him holding the gun, and go away. Even if it is a BB gun rifle, they can not see that.
So is there proof that having a gun will cause less gun death?

Anecdotal proof, not definitive. There are cases where he who draws first wins. And there are cases of brandishing leading to escalation of a situation.

However, criminals overwhelmingly go after relatively easier targets. Provided of course that they know the person is armed. If a criminal has a choice between robbing a house with an alarm system and a dog versus robbing a house of an armed individual, they'll be far more apt to choose the house with the alarm since response time is generally long and alarms can be disarmed and a dog can be pacified with food unless it's trained to be poison proofed which most dogs aren't.

Worse still, he seems to be fixated only on media events surrounding gun violence. Stats and facts mean nothing to him.

My girlfriend was a nurse at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn NY when she started out 4 years ago. Every week multiple individuals would come in due to gun shot wounds. Many died there or on the scene.

The grand majority of cases were never reported in the media. >90% of the cases involved Black youth. Consider that Kings County serves a great deal of Brooklyn which includes all sorts of ethnic communities. The media doesn't report it because they don't care. It doesn't affect the communities that the media cares about. And let's face it, it's expected in teh Black community. They don't call news, news for nothing. If it ain't new, they ain't gonna report it. Perhaps and expose on dateline with the obligatory tear jerker segment of an innocent kid trying to get out of the ghetto gets shot while looking out his window.

This has nothing to do with racism, it's just a fact as observed. But more importantly, considering that the borough of Brooklyn makes it difficult to acquire a permit for a handgun and requires a permit for long guns, practically all cases involved unlawfully owned guns.

Unlawful ownership is a problem that must be dealt with. Banning guns will not stop unlawful ownership, only lawful ownership.
