Not necessarily untrue, but you and lefty media are the only ones who think he is looking weak here. Trump was trying to get tough with the Iranian negotiators but OOPS Israel just killed the lead negotiator. I am not as sure as you are that this undermines Trump's "messaging" to them about the need to get serious.
It is called diplomacy. Trump had to distance himself from this so that it would lesson the impact on relationship with other countries in the middle east. It is called blame shifting.
The reality is that Israel wanted these "negotiations" to stop. The end result would have simply been to allow Iran to secretly continue with their nuclear development. Israel has taken the course of eliminating Iran's nuclear ambitions with finality.
