Seeing that Iran has been launching missiles at Israel for years and at times getting retaliated against -- a good question to ask is why Iran does not build shelters for civilians to shelter from airstrikes. Similar to Hamas they only provide underground protection facilities for the military and leadership. The answer is that Iran is the same as Hamas -- they want civilians killed so they can whine about civilian casualties and promote a culture of martyrdom.

Really? Before April 2024 how many times?

As for culture of martyrdom, everyone who puts up with you here has that.

Tehran has a large, modern metro system with over 150 stations, many of them deep underground. Like London during WWII or Kyiv more recently, these stations could and almost certainly would double as air raid shelters if needed.

Iran also has hardened military facilities, bunkers, you name it, prioritizing regime survival and military assets (like almost every state does).

Israel is 1.33% the size of Iran, there's that to consider. The last war Iran was in was with Iraq in the 1980s. FYI as you don't do history, America backed Saddam. Except for a blip during the Iran–Iraq War, Israel actually sold arms to Iran via the U.S. (the Iran-Contra affair).

Really, I hurt myself by knowing things... Maybe that's why Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a favourite movie of mine.

Yet, Iran announced today - "Iran said it would begin opening mosques, metro stations and schools to serve as makeshift bomb shelters for civilians." It appears there are not adequate underground metro stations in Tehran to use for bomb shelters -- the majority are be urged to shelter at mosques and schools. Not a single bomb shelter has been built for civilians. If a country wages war by launching missiles regularly at Israel -- in recent months in April 2024 and October 2024 -- then you would think that they would do more planning about protecting their civilians rather than it being a last minute thought.

If you want to get a sense of how the Iranian mullahs brutally treat their own population then you can read this thread - Iran: Terrorism, Oppression and Strife.

  7. All of the military leadership in Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran are already in paradise enjoying the virgins so, yeh, in that regard, it's a beautiful thing for them.

    More to come.

Iran does not want a ceasefire. "They will only pursue serious negotiations once Iran has completed its response to the Israeli pre-emptive strikes".

Iran rejects ceasefire negotiations while under Israeli attack, official says

DUBAI, June 16 (Reuters) - Iran has told mediators Qatar and Oman that it is not open to negotiating a ceasefire while it is under Israeli attack, an official briefed on the communications told Reuters on Sunday, as the two foes launched fresh attacks and raised fears of a wider conflict.

"The Iranians informed Qatari and Omani mediators that they will only pursue serious negotiations once Iran has completed its response to the Israeli pre-emptive strikes," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the conflict.

Iran made "clear that it will not negotiate while under attack," the official said.

Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran on Friday morning that wiped out the top echelon of Iran's military command and damaged its nuclear sites, and says the campaign will continue to escalate in coming days.

Iran has vowed to "open the gates of hell" in retaliation in what has emerged as the biggest ever confrontation between the longstanding enemies.

The official told Reuters media reports that Iran appealed to Oman and Qatar to engage the U.S. to broker a ceasefire and renew nuclear talks were inaccurate.

Iran's foreign ministry did not respond to Reuters request for comment, nor did Qatar's foreign ministry or Oman's ministry of information.

Oman has in recent months mediated nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, though the most recent round was canceled a day after Israel launched a sweeping air offensive against Iran.

Qatar has also played a role facilitating talks between the two foes in the past, most recently mediating a prisoner swap agreement in 2023.

Oman and Qatar have good relations with both Iran and the U.S. and they also have communicated directly with Israel.

  10. Those hairy men may be a step up from the goats they are used to. Although I am not sure. I don't have any experience in that area and want to keep it that way.

Speaking of ugly hairy virginal goats, I wonder if Greta will be going to Tehran or if she is there already. Probably not. Climate change is a more immediate threat to Israel and Iran according to her.
