About Syriana: First off, despite the fact that I don't subscribe to Clooney's political views, I actually DID like this movie. It's entertaining, moves fast, and makes you think. Now, there were two scenes in this movie which were completely laughable. Both of the princes were verbally insulted by Americans (The older prince by Matt Damon who called his policies 'stupid', and the younger prince by the lawyer Whiting, who called him a 'grown baby'.) Instead of reacting to these insults in true Arab fashion (MUST move to restore honor, before doing anything else), both princes then separately decided to <b>ally</b> themselves with the American men who just insulted them! <i>La Yumkin! (It isn't possible)</i> Anyone familiar with Middle Eastern culture can tell you how ridiculous and unrealistic this is. Every single portrayal I've ever seen of Muslim Arabs (both terrorists and innocents) in American TV shows and movies, is a <b>complete misrepresentation</b>. Syriana was no exception. Well if one lives in the U.S. they have a far better chance of being treated by an Indian doctor in an ER than a Jewish MD. Most of those in the U.S. and U.K. who call themselves Jewish are really former Jews who for all practical purposes are agnostic. IOW I doubt you'll run into Woody Allen at shul. Public opinion polls in Israel favored the re-election of President Bush. Yet in the U.S. only 25% of Jews voted for him despite half of the Orthodox voting for Bush. That means "secular Jews" support this administration to the tune of around 19%. Yet this administration is fighting a bloody, expensive war basically at the bequest of Israel! You know it and everyone else who knows the dualistic influence of neo-con ideology and fundamentalist Christian philosophy has upon this White House knows it. So in fact the pro-Israel policy of Bush is being despaired upon vehemently by American "secular Jews". And I would argue NOT because these "secular Jews" are peace loving but rather because they despise the Republican Party as a historical harbinger of free-market, low taxation principles along with Christian (as derived from Judaism) values. If an FDR or Clinton was waging this war while taxing the bejesus out of everyone and supporting abortion on demand the liberal "secular-Jews" wouldn't make a peep.
