Yes, there's a very large cognitive disconnect. It's quite a hypocritical blind-spot, advocating religious intolerance in a country that promotes those as unifying ideals - or for that matter, identifying with an extremist position regardless of the faith they follow. If the following of a faith doesn't bring out the best in people, which is at fault, the faith or the person? All the worst that people do is cross-cultural, independent of faith and signs of a suffering and self-tormented soul. It's easy to spot, whenever I'm blaming something outside myself, that's a pretty good clue, I'm got more stuff to clear within me.
