If you could slap your woman, with reasonable cause, would our divorce rate be as high as it is here in the U.S.A.?

  4. spect8or - there must be a communication fault here.

Let me restate as clearly as possible:

FBI stats of actual domestic abuse occuring in 25-35% of American households and on average a woman being beaten every 15 seconds and some 4-5,000 women dying each year of their beatings.

That's hardly a basis to claim superiority over any other group that beats their wives.

As far as what people say they believe - it is absolutely NOT as important as what they do.

If you take a survey and your test group only shows 1% think wife beating is OK, it is 180 degrees out of phase with what the FBI records say is really happening. So such a survey is completely meaningless.

And no, the guy who says beating his wife is wrong but goes right ahead and beats his wife is NOT better than the guy who thinks its OK to beat his wife.

In fact, one could make the argument that the first guy is worse - he's either a patent liar AND wife beater or he's so nuts that he beats his wife even while believing it to be wrong.

At least with the second guy you "might" have a chance to change his mind about whether it's right/wrong. With the first guy, it doesn't matter - he's apparently a pathelogical wife beater.
