There's a huge difference. We've evolved and no longer practice that barbarism. We did that in less than 50 years. There are countless examples of a culture/nation doing bad things to people. But they all evolved and no longer do those things. The muslims? Not so much. They practice a faith/beliefs rooted in the 6th century. For hundreds of years, their beliefs and their treatment of "infidels" has not changed. They're still barbarians. Let me ask you this, DB. Today, right now, would you rather be a black man in Alabama, or a gay in Syria? Take your time.
yeah it had nothing to do with this... The Crusades were military campaigns sanctioned by the Latin Roman Catholic Church during the High Middle Ages and Late Middle Ages. In 1095 Pope Urban II proclaimed the First Crusade with the stated goal of restoring Christian access to holy places in and near Jerusalem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusades
As I said, papal greed. The "Christian armies" couldn't have cared less about "restoring access to holy places".
I'm sure it's safe to say there were some true believers in the mix, too. Not to defend religious craziness of any flavor.
right... Christians did not want access to holy sites in Jerusalem because you know... db the hater of all things Christian says so.
And the hair-splitting is here. Reminds me of this joke... : ) I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump. I ran over and said: "Stop. Don't do it." "Why shouldn't I?" he asked. "Well, there's so much to live for!" "Like what?" "Are you religious?" He said: "Yes." I said: "Me too. Are you Christian or Buddhist?" "Christian." "Me too. Are you Catholic or Protestant?" "Protestant." "Me too. Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?" "Baptist." "Wow. Me too. Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?" "Baptist Church of God." "Me too. Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?" "Reformed Baptist Church of God." "Me too. Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?" He said: "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915." I said: "Die, heretic scum," and pushed him off.
As usual, this thread has declined in the same manner as all similar threads to "who's to blame"? The subject of the thread, however, is not fixing blame but pointing out that we're no better than those whom we condemn. The only thing that prevents us from seeing that is our vaunted but delusional "exceptionalism". And so the wars continue. And will continue. When ISIS is done, we'll war with the next iteration.
