DB, what exactly is your point here? That our ancestors did bad things in the distant past, so....what? Or that we kill people in horrifying ways in modern warfare, so what's the difference?

Just responding to the thread title. They burn people alive, we burn people alive. We are not morally superior, only vastly more hypocritical.
We could send over Judy Garland videos. ISIS might kill themselves. Of course, we'd have to find VHS format, as it is unlikely they have DVD players. That might be hard to find, unless db parts with some of his collection. What say you, db? In the name of peace?
I'm not sure where moral superiority became an issue. Do we have feel morally superior to defend ourselves? Or to recognize that our enemy is islamist jihad rather than some groups who happen to be muslim? Let me put it this way. Suppose I am a serial killer. I come upon a man trying to rape a woman. Should I decline to interevene on the ground I am not morally superior?
I'm just curious, AAA. You do realize you are attempting to discuss, rationally, a subject with someone whose only goal is to twist things around to make you look like you're a complete fool - and who has no intention of ever admitting you have a point on any issue, under any circumstances, right?
It became an issue when the claims were made that we don't do what they do. Which is what this thread is about. You people seem not to understand the nature of war. Of course we have to defend ourselves. Let's just not pretend that we are in any way "exceptional".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To read about bombs dropping from the airplane to kill many people with no names, no pictures of their face, no video of the capture , so that make the crime only seem so less. ISIS take one person, show their picture of capture to the media, show their name, their history, their video alive and for waiting to die. They are waiting to die. The family are have hope they will not die. The world hope they will not die. Then they kill them to take away hope. So people feel they know the person that is dead from the terrorist beheading or fire to kill. But really you are right. dbphoenix, "They burn people alive, we burn people alive."
Warfare changed dramatically when it became anonymous and impersonal. Ever considered how many wars we had in the twentieth century?
