Is Tom Hougaard the real deal?

Mark Douglas was not a trader and just a smooth talking psychotherapist who didn’t understand what an edge was! (He stated in his book that trading edge equals high win rate. Lol) What he tried to sell to people was the “zone” or a zen like state of mind that supposedly if you can get yourself into you can make money effortlessly. Well how attractive that would be! It was like preaching heaven to the believers. That’s why he became so popular among traders, as he was selling the dream of trading success!

But as the old timers would say, anything popular in trading most likely has no edge. The zen like mind set has no causal relationship with trading success. It was deceiving as a calmest person may not make a penny but an emotional wreck can made millions in trading.

Another psychological guru who preyed on aspiring traders was VKT…p who fabricated Ed Seykota’s endorsement in his book and charged $50k for his super performance trading “course”.

It is sad to say, but I am glad they are no longer among us…

Seems to be preaching the same common sense psychological stuff like finding something matching your personality, or having your process and reviewing your trades etc.

But this confession from him was telling:

"Are you a trader, but you spend all your time doing analysis. - Somehow I managed to maintain a career for 15 years, as a trader, behaving like this. Performance was Ok'ish, but mediocre in truth. I then shifted, to focusing less on idea generation and far more on to how I monetise my ideas, and my risk process and philosophy. - New purpose, new focus, new identity, big change."

Sounds like he couldn't make money in trading and then found his "new identity" as a trading shrink. LOL.

  7. So, you believe an unsuccessful trader can teach someone to become a successful trader by example?

That's an interesting comment, but maybe that's not what you meant.

  9. Good.

My assumption is that most teachers in trading don't know how to trade, so I'm generally not interested in any learning from them as that could easily lead one in the wrong direction. There are exceptions, though. Tom Hougaard possibly being one of them.

I've been taking his trades for about 6 months and making money doing it. All of his trades are callled real time and there are spreadsheets of all of his trades for the last of couple years available in Telegram. Most weeks on the channel are profitable and I don't think he's a had a losing month for a couple of years. It's true that he doesnt always tell you the reason for his entries and exits and he does have his bad runs but overall it's pretty good.
I'm not being a cheerleader. That's just what my experience has been .
