Yes. And the stupid bit of advice earlier in this thread that one can go onto Utube and build your own trading computer in 1 hour shows the level of ignorance going on here.

  2. Ditto.

Using a workstation for trading is an excellent idea. Better still, getting it at a good price. Hence, buying used. If someone is worried about warranty, they can buy a 1 or 2 year warranty from Square Trade.... still save $500, or more while giving up nothing in capability or function.

I've got 6, Dell Precisions in my home network. If I needed to buy a trading computer today.... I'd buy that HP Z420 from Newegg, without question.

Yep. When one starts out, one may believe that trading a dozen monitors and a handful of computers will make them a gun trader. (Can't help but think of Maestro but he was a company/business pro I think)
One trading computer with one monitor should do the job for long term traders, more gear if you are day trading. Tablet is handy. One guy here (maybe more) just use their mobile phones.
Hardware is not gonna make you a trader and into success, its your own brain power.

  4. Thanks, yes it appears he knows a thing or two about hardware. I guess he just has issues with those who may know the same amount or more about hardware. It's hard to have a logical exchange with those who always take things personal and always think they have to win a discussion, not realizing they are not in a debating club.

Ps by the way the only thing that @Scataphagos constantly talks about is Xeon based machines. Perhaps he knows a thing or two about them. But so do others and he makes the wrong assumption that Xeon based machines are the best tool for any and every trade. People who are religious about their one and only advice generally give poor advice

  5. It depends on how much power your video cards consume. For 2d applications such as trading apps Nvidia sells a card with 8 video ports onto which you can connect hdmi displays (albeit not 4k) at once which hardly consumes any energy. It's the 3d cards that suck a lot of power under load.

I agree, for you, it would be stupid advice, but it appeared to me that the OP was intelligent and quite capable of doing such an easy task. I thought it was quite easy and I can do it in an hour and I am quite happy with my build, not one burp in almost 7 months.

Maybe you could watch them do it on YouTube to see how easy it would be for most people. I still believe that it is the best way to go.

I have heard repeatedly that most of the best traders are long gone from ET, I know of a few still here, but there is no question why they would have left. I gave good sound advice that I stand by, even after all the stupidity and it seems in that on every subject there are the know it all jerks that disagree with almost everything, just to disagree.

I can assure everyone that disagrees, that there is no way you could get, just any computer to perform, like mine does, by simply plugging in a few video cards.

You also could not trade with all of the live stream data, that I trade with, without the computer I have; it's called an edge and I like it. Of course there are successful traders, trading without it, but I wouldn't want to!

So nobody is right or wrong, it's all opinion, but what is for sure, there are plenty of jerks on ET!!

Yup, for a computer nerd and having all the parts on hand.
Think about it for average Jack or Jill.
Researching, ordering parts, awaiting parts or going to shop, assembly, testing, loading software.
Then if anything goes wrong it's not of matter of returning it to shop, you need to suss out the problem, strip down.....etc etc
    One hour? Never!
Mate, when it comes to jerks on ET, it's usually those with a handful of posts who think they are the best.

No, what I have observed is that the jerks are many of those that believe, since they have a lot of posts, they are superior in knowledge too. Many on ET with a lot of posts of course don't think or act like that.

I wasn't thinking about average Jack or Jill, I read the OP's post and it is obvious he isn't average. As I stated, I would never have recommended that you take on such an easy task! Watch the online videos, they do it in 30 minutes; this isn't above most intelligent peoples ability. I think the fact that Newegg and other companies are doing so well selling computer parts is because building a computer is feasible for the masses; excluding you off course!

If you don't have the ability to do a little research to determine what requirements you need in a computer so that you can order the right parts, just maybe this whole adventure is over your head?

  10. That statement definitely does not correlate with my experience. Those who treat others (and probably themselves) like shit on ET and seem to have a need to puke on everyone and their dog share shockingly often the following traits: large post counts, poor listeners, expertise in a very narrowly defined area that may not be appreciated enough by others, and a very specific political leaning with active participation in the politics threads. That's at least my own observation.
