Since there is a limit down for index futures, is there a limit up too? Or they don't want to limit happiness???
spooz almost went limit down yesterday, (1255) No limit up On November 7, 2007, the NYSE confirmed that the exchange has scrapped this rule as of November 2. The reason given for the rule's elimination was its ineffectiveness in curbing market volatility. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trading_curb But there still is limit down in Spooz futures. http://www.allstocks.com/html/futures_limit_downs.html

It actually went limit down on tuesday morning around 2AM. It must have been those frenchies at SG waking up and start selling again the eminis. If you go to your time and sales, a little after 2AM there are large chunks of data with best ask at 1255.50 and no best bid. That's what a lock limit at 1255.25 is. In your entry platform (X_trader for example) you could've seen that the order book didn't have any prices below 1255.50.
